I just checked ebay..some mint ones for $20-30.00 NYS 1955. Also do a search for ones that did not sell.
Vintage license plates have been dropping in price every year.

I ordered this set of plates from Licenseplates.tv and I was very pleased with the results. Not cheap, but I wanted a set of the original plates as shown on my car's original title.

Might want to check with your local DMV office. In Michigan you can only use original plates, no reproductions as antique plates.

There is a guy in Evergreen, AL that sells tags on Ebay. I believe his Ebay name is Alabama Tag Man. I have bought several from him over the years and once about 15 years ago visited his place. At that time he had over 100,000 license plates. Thousands of them still in the plastic sleeves and most of those were in the original wooden shelves from old courthouses. The license plate collector people are pretty serious about their hobby. He has a slow type of bone cancer but still buys and sells. His name is Ed.

Now I'm sad, There is a note on his ebay page saying he passed away in November. We had emailed back and forth last spring about some plates. Note says his wife will continue selling eventually. Sad news, he was a nice guy

I have seen cars with year of manufacture plates at shows and wondered if they were legal. They usual are custom plates and no way they are old

yes that is the company i used for my yenko plates.
I don't think they are able to be registered - as u would expect, but for show and display they work great!

In Michigan you can use an original plate from the year of the car in lieu of an antique plate. It costs $35 to register and registration is good as long as you own the car, no renewal required. I have all my cars registered with original plates.
As with antique plates you are limited to shows, cruises, events, etc, but rarely enforced.

Spring Carlisle is right around the corner. There are several guys selling plates there. That is where I found "302" plates for my 69!
