This Mecum ad is a few years old but what ever happened to this car.
Anyone seen this car in person? Sold new in Pa. It is a stripe delete car
and has an enclosed cowl air cleaner set up under the hood. Don't know if
it's been talked about here on sYc but here's the link...

The subject of that car has been beaten to death over on the Camaro boards. Many banned posters and closed or deleted threads.

All over whether it was really Cortez silver or Evening Orchid and whether special paint doubles the value or just makes it interesting. It was also speculated there was shill bidding on that auction.

Completely unrelated, Dana Mecum owns a special paint Carolina Blue 1969 Camaro.

Original owner has posted here on this forum as to the color. As it stands there is about zero upside to discussing this car further.

Does being a stripe delete car add that much more value?

Personal taste, but zero me. If i own a Z28 i prefer the signature stripes!

So Steve, What makes this car worth that much, the color? Doesn't seem too desirable to me.

It's only as valuable as someone is willing to pay. I haven't followed the car. If it bid high in an auction but didn't hit reserve, ignore that price as it's value.

I had a Black 69 Z when new that was ordered stripe delete. It didn't look right so we had the stripes painted on. lol

I know who bought the car and had it at auction, I am not sure if he still has it.

Any idea what it went for at the last sale?

Thanks William. Looks like the Market has spoken as to the Bona fides of this particular car then.

The market is a drunk that won the lottery. Who else would pay $198,000 for an X77 Z/28 converted to RS?

Very well said William ...I agree 1000%

Interesting. I know an X-77 that was built as an RS/Z Have known the car well for over 40 years now.

All the RS specific gear on it right down to the wiper motor and correct factory rear valance.

Words to live by.

I wish a lot of sellers could get that through their thick skulls. The "one bid up to 75k at BJ so I want 80k for my '69 Firebird 350" type.

I would not even consider paying half of what it sold for in 2016.

The car was disclosed as being converted to RS during the restoration. The consignors were not trying to hide anything.

Just not done to a high level. No AIR system, missing RS wiper motor, etc. Hammered for $180,000; $198,000 w/fee.
