This showed up in my local scrap yard recently. Factory 1966 Nova Super Sport 4 speed car. There's a 10 bolt in it, not sure if its original to the car or not, but who junks something like this? L79 intake in the trunk. It has rot but it didn't look this bad until they moved it with the claw. I took out what was worth saving out of it.

Part of an estate clean up I would guess. The kids were not into cars and had it hauled off.

The seats were completely trashed. Rotted lower frames, rotted tracks. The front seat uppers are the only thing good, and I didn't have a sawzall to cut them out of the floor since the bolts were basically round since they were rusty.

Did you happen to grab that trunk lid?

Did you happen to grab that trunk lid?

Trunk lid was caved in on right side so I took the trim and left the rest.

Trunk lid would make great man cave art with those vintage stickers

I was about to post that same thing! Garage Art! I would have taken the whole thing. That could be an L79 car.

I'm sure the vent windows and window trim would be worth saving maybe the side glass if it was original and not all messed up. Great #490 Casting intake find. Trunk lid with the old decals is cool that could be a wall hanger. The center console if it was still there and not all busted up would be worth saving. Sad period but if it was an original Artesian Turquoise L79 car even worse. The 12bolt rear could have been swapped out over the years. Great color originally. Grab the trim tag hang in your tool box let a little piece of the 66 live on.

My buddy, who told me the car was in there, snagged the 4 speed console which was laying in the backseat already unbolted.

I was thinking the same thing about the deck lid. It would make a Great Wall hanger in the shop with the old stickers.

Cut those emblems out of the rear seat back (if you haven't already). I'd imagine someone needs them.

Did you get any of the revel moldings on the door/rear window or the really impossible to get drip rail stainless? The little trim pieces in the front corners are $200 easy.

You left too much on the bone Matt!! Was the insert under the trunk plate as big as the plate or small/normal size? I always thought the SS trunks were different then 2dr coupes.

I know someone with a real 66 SS that the trim tag was lost or removed that needs this!

That's nuts. I would get the decklid just to hang the stickered side on the wall.

Absolutely heartbreaking to see that car meet its unfortunate demise. It brings to mind that we've now reached a point in time where there's a WHOLE BUNCH of stuff popping up lately as hoarders are starting pass on and their families are liquidating. It breaks my heart to think of the rare parts that are being thrown into those rental driveway dumpsters when garages & basements have to be cleaned out quickly.

I guess that depends on your definition of a "good" car.

That thing looks pretty rusty to me, not to mention hit hard. Good car for parts I guess.

so rusty...some should die to save others..it should have been "recycled" or parted, not crushed

Should have pulled the quarter extension rocker moldings those aren’t reproduced

It wasn't hit. Came in on a trailer, they picked the nose up with the claw and used the yard machine to push the front of the car into the pile. It was a good rolling SS with typical east coast rust before the yard got to it.

I thought it was already hit when brought in. Hearing that it was a roller make it even worse.
I'm sick at my stomach.

Looks like it has 68 Impala bucket seats. Wonder if there is a build sheet in one of the seat backs?

I watch a facebook group called wrecked muscle cars and classics. Tonight they had a video of a grand national at a junk yard and they picked it up off a trailer with a claw and threw it on the ground. Then crushed the top in. Really sad to watch. Still had the GN wheels on it

I wonder why the guys at the yards aren't keeping them to sell or part out? Must be a time(or tunnel vision) issue. You know they know what the cars are worth.

I was scouring a Palm Beach FL scrap yard some years back and came across a 70 Nugget Gold W30. Very rusty but savable. Engine,Trans,Fender liners,VIN and Trim tag missing.
Nice White Int. A/C original paint car.
I saved the VIN number from the door jam decal in case the car shows up someday.
Once a car goes into a scrap yard in FL its a one way trip by law.

On the GN, someone thought it was a car that GM had donated to a school, like it wasnt saleable and afterwards it had to be crushed. I live real close to Honda and there was a small junk yard near me that would get some of their cars and they would be new and stacked together with the tops crushed in. They had some other makes from the plant to. I have a feeling they were test cars. I think the junk yard owner got caught selling parts and they quit letting him get cars. Looked like perfectly good lights, tires, wheels but I suppose they dont want a lawsuit
