My Dad bought a silver 69 GP new, but a auto car with full hubcaps. I got to use it as a teenager. I would take the air filter out so you could hear that quadrajet gulp air. At about 70K miles the timing chain gave up while I was driving it. Luckily the repair shop my Dad took it to said that was common so I didn't get blamed. Felt like driving a rocketship looking out over that long silver hood.

----Kind of unusual in that the car wasn't an SJ, only a J. So, technically, it could have been a 400 from the factory. He states that it has the original motor and Ill take him at his word, but it seems that stroking a 455 would take it out to more than 468. Still a nice piece and, as said, rare with 3 pedals!.....Bill S

Always liked these cars.

My cousin bought a 72 SJ when they came out and I used to sneak the keys...back it up on the scale pad at my uncles shop and do brake stands with it when my cousin was out delivering fuel in the trucks. Until my cousin came back to the shop one day, saw the black lines on the pad and then spotted the rubber all over his quarter panels. My cousin Grant was 18 when he taught me to drive on the farm at the age of 8. He was also the one who showed me how to do brake stands and the concrete pad out in the yard at the shop, but needless to say, CHEWED my ass for beating on his car without his permission. Glad I never blew it up. :)

I remember it like it was yesterday! And loved those long ass hoods and the deep bucket seats. I could barely see over that dash as I recall.
