Attended an NCRS sponsored event at Champion Motors, Syssoet NY today. Guest speaker was Al Grenning. While there, Kevin Mackay owner of Corvette Repair was doing a photoshoot with his customer's 1956 SR2. Real treat seeing it in person and up close, one of the rarest Corvettes ever built: Paul Winvoices

Awesome pics and subject, thanks for posting Paul!
Is this the SR2 that originally had a lower fin and did those parts survive too?
Seeing Jim Jeffords name, this must also be the SR2 later sponsored by Nic>|ey and the orignal Purple People Eater car?
:beers:

I was there too. Would have been nice knowing another member was as well... oh well. Al Grenning presented a trim tag, vin tag and engine pad that was on another level. The backdrop was Champion Motors which is a high-end exotic dealer/storage facility. Wonderful super cars. The SR2 was some site. Amazing machine!

Now, I think the one we have seen being sold by Corvette Mike's may be the other one still around. That one was listed at $6.8 million. This is a nice video he produced when it was being listed. Engine compartment and air filter configuration different. Not sure if one has 2 carbs while Mike's had 1?

An extremely important car that was at the beginning of Chevrolet Performance as we know it.

I believe this is the ex Rich Mason car, which was raced extensively by Rich, later sold by Corvette Mike to Irwin Kroiz and apparently now Freshened/Restored not sure which by Mackay.

----The SR with the smaller fin, which belonged to Richard Fortier (owner of Paragon for a long time) was Jack Douglass's for part of one summer when he was a teenager. Jacks Dad was a prominent GM executive before he founded the Chevy dealer we all know about. He must have had a high standing to just sign that SR out for the better part of a summer!......Bill S
----Not sure if Richard still owns that SR or not.

SR2 owned by Don Yenko later sold to a guy from my area, Cookie Knuth. Cookie traded a 66 or 67 427 vette + cash to Don. Don said it was truly the most terrible car he had ever driven. A friend of mine drove this car to his HS prom.
First pic is at a car show in Wheeling W.va

That is so cool David, wow. So much muscle car history in your area and Pittsburgh back in the day.

That's an awesome car to see in person. Irwin is a perfectionist, every one of his cars is stunning. Kevin does a great job.

I think it had just had a 125K restoration before Irwin got it and apparently it was restored again ?

I guess if you buy a $6 million car, you make it how you want it !
BTW... I'm sure they must be, but are the screws on the VIN correct? I owned a handful of early vettes and don't recall any like this.

I think it was just some touch-up and detail work. I was wrong kevin did a complete resto on it. I seen it when he first got it and it was beautiful.
