I remember seeing an image a few years ago of a dealer-tuner from the late 60's converting Camaros to 427 power. Does anyone remember this photo or any dealers from Canada converting Camaros from that era?

FYI the cars I'm thinking of weren't the Black Panther cars out of Toronto.

The 3 Camaros pictured were not Mander cars. Looks like they were photographed in California. It's doubtful that any were produced with that body kit by Manders, although there was some engine swaps done.

The scoops etc were Gene Winfield designed also available to anyone so other cars w/ similar parts not necessarily Mander cars.
I can't look now but there was a thread here a few years back w/ a Parts Catalogue showing these scoops also flares and Enots Monza Gascaps etc.

Does the Yellow Mander SUPER HUGGER in that actual add not look the same as the yellow in the picture? Scoops, sidepipes, wheel/tires/flares and even missing strip on hood. Sure looks like a few must have been built

Mussalem Motors in Haney, just east of Vancouver, was also a well known Canadian muscle car/tuner center. Quite a number of COPO's went through the dealership and were tuned by resident mechanic, Buck Kinney. Many west coast folks will remember Kinney racing at Mission Raceway Park under the Mussalem banner. Mussalem has been gone for quite a few years and the original building burned down about 6 months ago.

Another notably Canadian dealer was Jack Carter Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Calgary, Alberta. A special Carter ordered and sponsored L79 Nova SS came in 12th out of 61 cars in the 1966 Shell 4000 Cross Canada Rally. The car still exists and is in the Canadian L79 Registry. The GM Canada documentation notes it had just about all the heavy duty stuff you could get on a 1966 Chevy II. It also included RPO X23 - spare tire delete, which was a regular production option that appears on the 1966 Canadian order form.

I believe they just used that photo in the ad, and none were actually built like that at Manders. I know quite a few guys that grew up in North Vancouver, and never saw a Camaro like that. I worked there a few years later after it was bought by Dick Irwin. Quite a few engine swaps were done though, and down the road at Conroy Pontiac Buick, they made a few Cheetahs, some with 427's.
