The TT shows code 720 for the dark green custom cloth...typo by Jerry on the sheet? Also, at or around the same time, Rich had a Mulsanne Blue 70 Z28 COPO....I can only speculate Jerry inspected both cars on the same trip and the COPO car has the bright blue interior but cannot recall if it was standard custom vinyl or custom cloth.

I'd be a bit wary about this car. The "all original body panels" statement is false. Maybe original GM, but not original to this car. Surprised MacNeish didn't catch this.

You know what I'm talking about Steve. Look carefully at the photo just before the TT of the engine compartment.

I'm partial to the color also. Still may be a good deal especially at where its at now. Maybe the current owner thinks they are original to the car?

Dave - didn't look too close at the engine compartment pic although I did notice the replaced pass-fender, (at least it's GM) and non-70 hood hinges. other than some repop pieces and headers, looks tidy. am I missing anything?

Nope, that was it. The fender. Definitely not 70. Rest of it looks good. I'm not real familiar with Jerry's appraisals. Do they usually get into this level of detail? Things like replaced body parts etc? Hard enough to know all the details on the first gens, but throw in the second gens whew.

I kind of question the drivers side fender due to the washer bottle mounting. That doesn't appear original for a non NA9 car. Maybe that fender is replaced also and the washer bottle mount is not correct.

I saw another car this owner had advertised months ago. It was not what he claimed it was over the phone . Not happy after a 4 hour drive ...... BEWARE !!!!

This was indeed one of my old cars, not restored by me. It was however a really clean driver quality car. Basically, if I remember correctly on a driver level car Jerry inspects the drivetrain and "major" items. I know he checked the quarters but pretty sure that there was no discussion on the fenders (not taking a side either way on if there should have been noted on report or even if those are the same fenders). I know he noted on page 2 that he didn't inspect the minor components because it was a driver car.

The typo on the report is exactly what L16Pilot described. Jerry also certified the Blue 70 COPO Z I had and while it had vinyl, the TTag showed blue comfort cloth.

When I got this car, the previous owner gave me a whole bolt of the cloth interior fabric and he claimed it was the last the original cloth manufacturer had. Not sure of it made it into this guys hands, or still comes with the car. I think the car changed hands once or twice since me (not 100% sure).

Looking at the pics, the car does seem somewhat worse for wear. Those rims color looks off and the LH front is peeling. I don't think those are the rims that the car was sold with, or they were reshot, or bad lighting?

All of that being said, for that price point and numbers matching, it isn't too bad a deal.

I do find that the auto kills the 70's though.

Couldn't agree more with that suggestion Rich. I bought a 70 RS Z a few years ago that was beautifully restored but had a TH400. Drove it a few times and found it pretty boring. I sold it off before the season ended. In fact, there have been a couple solid lifter cars come my way since then that were very good opportunities, but passed on both solely based on the cars being automatics.

Sticks are so much more enjoyable to row through the gears with regardless of the year or horsepower. Automatics are for when you can no longer push a clutch in.

I couldn't agree more. I love manual transmissions. My brother had a '70 RS Z28 and sold it because it was an automatic. I traded a nice numbers matching '67 SS396 Chevelle for my current Camaro only because the Chevelle had a Powerglide and the Camaro had a 4 speed.

I have too strongly disagree about a automatic being boring. I’ve owned a 70 Z now for over 20 years and shifting from first to second around 6000rpm with that snap of second gear from the Cw code transmission is a thrill. I also have M22’s and there’re fun too. Variety is the spice of life.

I'm not against either,and enjoy both a Manual trans as well as an Auto trans. equipped car.Both are fun to drive & have their advantages/disadvantages..
I've found with us all aging more & more,and the generations after ours coming up financially,they majority of those people in the market for cars like ours are completely inept at driving a manual trans. vehicle,thus the Autos seem to sell faster.
When I see 2 identical cars for sale,(one with M/T,the other a TH400),the one with the Auto trans seems to sell within days,while the M/T take longer.
One guy told me he never grew up with a M/T,and didn't want to learn how now.

I actually liked the auto in my 70Z Copo. However, I experienced just the opposite speaking mainly of 2nd Gen Z's. The auto's sell much slower than the manuals. I *think* because too many people it just is not a Z if it's got an Auto.

For a long time, the 70 Z's didn't pull anything (sale wise) and now I see the gap closing on value.
