I use to got to the ice cream parlor in this car as a young kid at that time it was black! Could have bought it around 1993 for $3500 but was way to big of a project for me at that time.

Bill yes it was! He bought it from the family that bought it very early and raced it! At one time Ram chargers built a 396 for the car.

Having a hard time swallowing the price - probably an attention getter (hopefully). Judging from description and photo of it in black back in its racing days, it is doubtful the original drive train remains. Original body panels most likely not all there. Column shift, LoPo (by ‘70 Chevelle SS standards) with other issues doesn’t quite add up to $390K in my mind.

It's got a '72 dash in it, "fasten seat belt" light.

Based on the research that was done, the Pilot labeled dash wiring, other dated items on the dash and conversations with GM engineers, it is believed that this dash carrier was an experimental piece to test what was coming down the road in the coming years. Everything was labeled and dated and there was a lot of evidence that GM used the car as a test bed experimenting with different gauges, dashes, wiring, etc before the car was done with them and it appeared (based on the dates of several of those items) that it was in their possession for several months.
