Check out the pics below and let me know what you think.

Has it been shaved down to fit a 4 row?

It's never been modified. It came off a 70 Chevelle SS 396 w/ac.

Then it was indeed shaved down on the assembly line back in 1970,to fit the heavy duty 4 row radiator that Air Conditioned cars got back then.
Because the Heavy Duty/4 row shroud wasn't made yet,so they had to modify them during assembly on the line.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. Where is the "shaved down" area that needed modified for a 4-row rad?

It's not as valuable as it would've been if it wasn't shaven. They sell this same shaved down design today on the reproduction market under the #914 number,(the last of the 3 #'s issued for this shroud),that has other minor differences on it as well.
So price?..comparable to todays repro price I've seen when shaven. The unshaven is the more sought after and higher price.
Here are photos of an original unshaven #165 on a 1970 Chevelle 3 row radiator.Last 2 pics show the bottom..
See where it actually touches the radiator core on the drivers side,as well as on the bottom lip. That's what's been shaved off of yours to fit a 4 row.
1970 Chevelle big block 2 & 3 row,and 1969 Chevelle big block 2 & 3 row,all used this unshaven #165 shroud .

Thanks. Those picture clearly show the difference.

I know this an old post, but can someone confirm if my shroud has been shaved or not?

Your shroud has not been shaved Mark2002,see how tall it stands out on the far right in your second pic.

I would consider selling it, if anyone is looking for one.

Is this correct only for an L78 car (1969 and 1970) or other applications as well?

All 1969 & 1970 big block Chevelles & Elcaminos that came with a 3 row radiator from the factory used this un-shaved fan shroud...Horsepower & Transmission had nothing to do with it.
Small blocks & Heavy Duty 4 row radiators in same cars during that time, used different numbered fan shrouds or were shaved.
