I picked up this nice set of 4 F70-14 Tiger Paws that have been stored in a basement since the 1970s. They have DOT markings so I'm guessing they are newer than 1970 vintage. Would these be otherwise correct for a 1970 Chevelle SS396? Any idea as to value?

Tony, I got $700.00 for just a pair 6-7 years ago that didn't look as good as the ones pictured. The fact that they are not reproduced I would say they are worth a bunch to the right person, but actual dollar amount? I'm not sure. Those were one of at least 4 tire brands offered on 1970 Chevelles I believe.

1969 and 1970 tires have different raised black wording. The '69 tires are Dynacor Rayon and the '70 tires are Dynacor Rayon/Fiberglass.

If not correct for a 70... those tires are correct for a 71-73 Camaro equipped with optional 14" tires or a 71-72 Camaro SS.

It would be nice if the Tiger Paws could be reproduced. I think there's a market for them... A lot of cars came from the factory with them. Don't know why they won't repop this style tire??

With a DOT of PD7743, I believe these tires were produced in the 43rd week of 1977

I know the car, and believe Steve Sandlin had the copo restored and installed the original Tiger Paws.

Seems like everybody wants to buy them. I would put them on EBay at no reserve. Would be fun to watch.

Amazes me some of the parts that are reproduced that don't wear out like 12 bolt backing plates and front brake line brackets but no-one reproduces these.

Yes they are a neat tire because they are different. As far as my Z-11 goes I have no clue if they were on the car from the factory or installed later as a replacement tire sometime in the 1970s.
As of now I am rockin polyglas and with the build date of the car as 05A this is just as likely to be the original tire given the ordering sheet change with respect to tires.

I have yet to see a 69 Camaro with Polyglas documentation so probably not very likely that those were the factory installed tires.

Technically the fiberglass belted F70 x 14 RWL tires did not become a Camaro option until the April 2, 1969 revision of the dealer ordering sheet as RPO PL4 which was a $26.25 option on Camaro SS.
You cannot tell from the pictures but I do have F's on the front and H's out back, so yes absolutely not factory original. :)
I like the Polyglass look and the car has good stance too-as a driver it scratches the itch just fine.
