Anyone have a muscle car from Jim McKay Chevrolet in Fairfax, VA? My Camaro was purchased there March 15, 1969. This dealership is still in business at the same location and now run by his daughter.
I've tried to find some old ads but no luck yet.
Rob
Used to go there all the time in the early 80's to mid 90's to buy parts for my 70 Z-28. They had a used car lot across the street from the new car showroom and occasionally had some interesting used muscle for sale. I recall a gorgeous triple black 69 L-71 corvette convertible on the lot around 1980. It was way more than I could afford at the time, but that big block motor with the triple twos was certainly impressive to a 17 year old kid.
We'd do some street racing nearby there as well. Glad to hear its still in business.

I saw the plates also but they went quick. Do you know if the dealer emblem in the post above is correct for 1969-70 ?

Check the notes on my shipping report. I've heard they kept all of the invoices, etc. No luck yet in trying to find out. At this point though I have the sales doc from the original owner and the POP.

Wow on the Dealer Records note, best of luck and looking forward to what you find out!
Not positive but think the emblem was on a 68-72 Nova?

Rob not sure on the year for that emblem. I called them last year they said they had no records from 1970. Thanks

Thanks, I have that dealer emblem and know it was used in 1972. I put some mag tape on the back. Made a nice shop cabinet magnet :)
I had seen this old post here about the records. Took awhile to find it! If he spoke to Jim McKay it would have been before 2001

And there might even be more paperwork available....
Several years ago I stopped by the dealership while researching a car, and Mr. McKay still had dealer invoice binders going back to when they first opened (before 1969). Pretty cool to see original dealer invoices by the binder-full. Worth a shot.
Good luck, BCD.

The NCRS note about the dealer having records has been at best disappointing. I've also tried, and even stopped by the dealership in person on my way to the Camaro Nationals. We would have had better luck if Jim McKay was still around and running the business. The story is he saved all of the invoices since opening the dealership in the 1950s. Allowing these documents to just sit and rot is such a waste. Perhaps we should make an offer to buy all of it :hmmm:

If you're not able go there in person try contacting the Northern Virginia Corvette club. McKay was their dealer sponsor a few year ago. These guys might know the scoop.
