44th Annual Watson Lake Car Show, Prescott, AZ 8/4/2018

Woke up REAL early Saturday morning and drove north on I-17 to Prescott for the 44th Annual Watson Lake Car Show. This is a big deal for Prescott, and when we arrived at 7:30 AM, the spectator lot was already half full.

This show is put on by the Prescott AACA, and they put on a great show. The largest collection of hit and miss engine I have ever seen was there, along with a few old implement trucks. There was a swap meet area and a large car corral.

I drove up from I-17 to Prescott with Bob A in his Maverick. The car show area was half full with many show cars still arriving. We decided to start walking around the special display area, then we hit the swap meet and car corral.

I just got back, spent most of my weekend there. It's just 10 minutes up the road for me so we do it every year. One of the best little shows in the Prescott area in my opinion with a fantastic location near the water and a not too bad swap meet to go with it. We entered one car Saturday and went back today with 2 more. Can't beat the entry fees, they do a great job putting it on and they keep the prices reasonable. $25 on Saturday and $10 on Sunday. Been that way for years.
Last I heard the official car count on Saturday was 345.

I thought it was an awesome car show for all of the reasons mentioned. Had such a great time. Noticed some mistakes I made in some of these posts. Probably fell asleep twice while posting. Oh well. :tongue:

I've seen that T-bird twice at shows in Prescott. It is very nice.

Wow, thanks Rick. Looks even nicer in those pics. That color is perfection on it.

How do those drive? I've never been in one.

I've driven many of them as I build them start to finish, do overdrive swaps and fuel injection swaps on some of them etc...(Actually I restore everything here but I've done 3-4 dozen baby birds in the last 4-5 years)

I'm not that tall, maybe 5'5" or so, but they are a pain to get in and out of when the hard top (or soft top) is on. I bang my head every stinkin' time, lol. Very low side windows. Hard for me to get my tree trunk legs under the wheel too (no tilt)

But as far as how they drive, not bad. The auto they came with is designed to leave in 2nd gear, then shifts to 3rd, so they feel kind of sluggish around town. The only way for first gear take off is to mash the throttle and the linkage will force first gear. Kind of a weird deal. But all the birds I've driven ride pretty nice, not harsh, and of course like any convertible, top down is fun, excellent visibility.

I've driven many at Barrett Jackson. At 6'2", I'm not graceful entering and exiting, and it's a bit cramped for me to drive one. But since I make an effort, and make the best of it, they assign me baby birds when the timing is right.

Thanks for the info. I'm not too tall like you x33rs, about 5'6", so it prob won't be nearly as uncomfortable as for Rick, lol. Wife likes those about as much as a C3, but I'd probably lean towards a C3 when we're ready to get another fun car.
