Hola all you vette guys. What's your .02 on the value of this 62 Vette? Guy at Crusin the Coast wants to make a trade and I am trying to establish value. He wants the Penske Z28. He wants to trade straight up, so I am pretty sure that is a smoking deal for me.

This was his dad's vette whom passed away. Paint is nice, but not quite as nice as it looks in the pics. The car is a solid driver NOM engine car, but the trans/rear is original. Frame looks solid and the interior is nice driver quality. Hardtop and ragtop car. All gauges work, including the tach. Engine runs great and no smoke etc. I read that the 62's did not have a data plate to tell original color and the young man did not know if this was the original color or not (he said its always been this color as long as his dad had it the last 20 years or so).

Ballpark price/value real world money?

Thanks!

Rich

I am not up on vette values, but i am sure those people will chime in. But look for original bonding strips and body repairs. And body gaps are very important in vette's. Do you know how old the paint is, BC/CC, Single stage, or laquer?

What value do you place on your car?
Be sure to inspect the corvette frame thoroughly especially around the rear axle kick ups.
Be sure the vin plate is spot welded in the steering column in plain sight under the hood. The hardtop has substantial value. Did you look at it?

If it is not the original motor, look for all mechanical aspects of it that will make it wholesome - good oil pressure, seals, leaks, performance. The trans will have the VIN on it. The rear - look for the narrow "P" for Posi. Will have a date and a gear ratio on it. Nose wise - make sure you see all glued bonding strips. Reproduction glass is terrible. No trim tags in the solid axle cars. Send me a pic of the VIN tag. It is tack welded to the steering column inside the engine bay. These driver solid axle cars are likely in the $32k-$38k range. Maroon isn't my choice color but I don't think you can get hurt at all.

Thanks guys. I'm going back out this evening to look at it again. Mechanically its stout. My buddy owns a shop and he gave it the ok, actually better than ok drivetrain wise.

Excuse the ignorance, how do I check binding strips? I'll snap pics of Vin, I did see it in the column but didnt notice if welded on.

Re hard top, yes it was with the car and we did put it on. Looks good and fit is good.

So, here it is loaded on the trailer (that's rain on the body not chips):

It was raining when I picked it up.

The deal for the Z fell through, but I wound up buying the Vette anyway.

Here's the VIN:

And no one wanted the grandfathers trophies, so they left them in the trunk:

My second favorite year of straight axle Corvettes, and my second choice in colors. First for me would be a black 57, but a Honduras Maroon 62 isn't anything to snicker at. Congrats on the purchase. I'm extremely jealous.

Great trade....

----By the tach it appears to originally be a 340 horse car which is good, value wise, but it appears to me to not be the original motor. Also, check the king-pin front suspension for wear and take a good look at the rear crossmember as it generally rusts out first. Good luck!...….Bill S
