Over 70,000 acres burned since yesterday and spreading. Town of Paradise is virtually gone. Thousands of structures gone. News said possibly the fastest spreading fire in US history. This sucks. No idea on the amount of casualties.

Mark Mitchell evacuated his family and stayed with his house. He's safe, so far....with fire all around.

Some reports indicate it started w/ an out of control campfire but I didn't see any confirming details.
Thoughts/prayers for Mark and his family also the Firefighters and others there in harm's way.

Hmm weird. Haven't seen anything on the news about it here. Even more strange, we still have family that live in Sac and they haven't mentioned anything either. When did it start??

Started yesterday am. One of the worst fires I have ever heard of. I'm outside of Sacramento and the sky is smoke and ash. Plenty of film on Facebook threads. Really horrible. Probably many animal and people lives lost.

We have family we visit in Rio Linda just a bit North of town. Maybe it will be on the news tonight.

So is it worse than the fires they had earlier this year in Southern Ca??

It's about 40 miles North of me, it's real bad, went from 20,000 acres to 80,000 over night. Winds and dry air are the big problem. Fire fighters are not even trying to stop it right now, concentrating on rescues. We are covered in smoke with ash falling. I have heard of 5 fatalities so far and many unaccounted for, many elderly in particular. Here are some pictures and videos if you are on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/boostedbrittany/media_set?set=a.10217173020853144&type=3

Wow, that sucks!! I hadn't heard about the fires up North. Our news down here has full of the shooting in Thousand Oaks, the fires in Newbury Park (bad) and Griffth park (this morning, I think out now). The winds are whipping things up here. How are the winds up there? I hope everyone is still safe and stays safe.

I've spent my last two trips flying North and South within California. Only a few small fires as of last weekend, very little to worry about. Now, I can't believe what I am seeing on the news. It looks awful. My thoughts and prayers are with those that are in danger. Very scary!

PROVO — For the second year in a row, some Utah firefighters will be spending Thanksgiving away from their families in order to help firefighters in California.

A type 3 engine with a four-member crew from the Utah County Fire Department left Friday morning for California to help crews fight the highly destructive and fast-moving Camp Fire in Paradise, California. The fire has burned approximately 20,000 acres and several thousand buildings, and forced the evacuation of all 30,000 residents.

State fire officials on Twitter announced that firefighters from the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, Draper, Provo, Bluffdale, Cedar City and Hurricane, Washington County, are also en route to assist with the fire.

Oddly, still nothing on the news this morning about fires. They briefly mentioned the shooting in Southern CA, then went on to other news. I don't do facebook or any other social media but my wife did get in touch with family. Cousins that live in Paradise got out fine and are staying with her Aunt in Chico.

I've have a few friends that were told to evacuate. They've been able to get back to their places and things are ok. Luckily they had some brush clearing done and the fire halted at the brush line, 100-300 yards away. If you're put in the position of having to get out, it's one of those times where you have to decide in an instant what to take and what to leave. One of my friends had stored all of his pictures in a small rolling suitcase so he can grab and go. When the winds kick up again we'll see what happens. I hope nothing. Everybody stay safe.

In Mark's neighborhood...8 houses around his were lost to the fire. He's safe and his house is safe. He's helping the fire department put out spot fires....

Crazy how a fire gets seemingly selective. So many variables. Probably shows just how hard the firefighters work to try to save the houses.
I heard they are bringing in many apparatus from surrounding states. Hope they catch a break with the winds.

My Oldest Son saw a post showing 3 Firefighters pushing a 1968 Shelby GT-350 out of a garage 2 minutes before the garage went up in Flames. They Must have been Car Guys!
(nobody was at the Home when they arrived)

They pushed it down the street...up near some brush...where the fire was going...Not sure if it's okay.

Hope so.

So much loss of life. Insane how fast these fires spread. Having lived in SoCal and been around the Santa Ana winds (which always show up in November)...it's not hard to see the fires covering 100 yards a second in extreme circumstances :(

PARADISE, Butte Co. , Ca. — Thursday morning, when the Camp Fire was closing in on the area surrounding Butte County, the blaze was moving as quickly as a football field (100 yards) per second.

For many, there was no way to outrun the fire. Currently, there are more than 100 people reported missing as a result of the devastating fire.
Ten coroner’s office teams were spread out in Paradise and the surrounding communities starting on Sunday, embarking on the daunting task to find the remains of those still unaccounted for in the ashes.

“We’re just going door to door, house to house, looking for families loved ones that are missing,” said Jake Hancock, who is a District Attorney Investigator in Butte County.

Investigators tried to find signs of where a bedroom used to be, or a bathtub or a fireplace, or anywhere someone may have been trapped or tried to use as shelter.

The intensity and heat of the Camp Fire made the recovery task more difficult.

“In some cases, the only remains we are able to recover are bones or bone fragments,” said Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea.

Our small local Fire District sent 4 firefighters and a truck or two to help out with the fires in SoCal. Godspeed to all involved.

From what I read on a 4x4 forum with a lot of members from the Camp Fire area they are expecting 100's of fatalities. What a terrible situation.

I saw a YouTube video of a guy, probably in his 60's, going back to check on his friends he was evacuating with. They were all dead in their burned out cars. Just burned skeletons. I can't imagine the terror of being in a car and getting burned to death.

Those videos of people escaping in their cars shocked me as well. I have fought A LOT of fire working in the bad part of Atlanta, but seeing people fleeing a wildfire in close to zero visibility conditions and then making it out and realizing it is day time and the sun is out surprised me.

I always tell people that structural firefighting is not like in the movies. In a structure fire you have ZERO visibility. You literally cannot see anything. I was unaware that a wildfire can cause almost the same lack of visibility.

My hat is off to the first responders as well. How those folks can work continuously, to the point of exhaustion, and keep going when many have lost everything themselves is a testament to their commitment and character.

After this thing is out those folks will need a lot of help. Many have just the clothes on their backs and maybe a vehicle. They have lost homes, possessions, jobs, businesses and in a lot of cases loved ones.

I was in Gatlinburg this summer and you could see places it had burned and on the same side of the mountain places it missed, those areas in California look like it just burnt everything very shocking
