View Full Version : Jim Funston Dealer code and Dealer Zone
Would anyone happen to have a picture of the dealer code and zone number to Jim Funston Chevrolet on a window sticker, shipping invoice, newspaper article, etc. The problem that I’m facing is when Funston closed in fall of 1972 there dealer code and zone number were reassigned to Frantz Buick Chevrolet in Hastings MI and we’re not in the copo network. The bigger problem is I purchased a shipping data report from NCRS and when I received it the certificate states my car was shipped to Frantz Buick Chevrolet. Unfortunately they will not send me a correct shipping data report unless I can prove to them that Jim Funston had the codes before Frantz Buick Chevrolet.... Any help is greatly appreciated.
Disclaimer: I am not here to bash or talk bad about the NCRS and I respect they are trying to protect the integrity of the GM documents.

What Zone/Dealer # are we talking?
I didn't see any listing for Frantz but the NCRS Database shows Funston w/ Zone #44 Dealer #152 as of 1968?:hmmm:

A few things: I have Jim Funston listed in my data base twice as dealer 44-152. Unfortunately, I do not have any documents supporting this. Now, it looks to me that prior to Frantz Buick starting up Lefty Frantz began at 1435 S. Hastings in Hastings as Larke Buick Chevrolet (seeing ads through 1976). Then I begin seeing ads in 1979 for Frantz Buick & Chevrolet at that same address. I have Larke as dealer 44-248 and it would seem odd that when Lefty changed the name at that same address, he didn't inherit the 44-248. I agree that 44-152 is Jim Funston Chevrolet at 12668 Gratiot, in Detroit. It may help you to show that 44-152 could not possibly be Frantz Buick nor Larke because neither was in business in 1969 when your car was purchased. See attached as info.

Hopefully it will have the dealer stamp zone and code
IÂ’ve sent them a copy of my protecto plate with a Jim Funston stamp and address on it but unfortunately IÂ’m being told that itÂ’s not enough because it did not have the dealer code or zone number on it. If I can prove to them that Frantz Buick Chevrolet wasnÂ’t in business yet with a date that could possibly work.

To clarify, what Zone/Dealer # do you have that NCRS says was Frantz?

That is awesome William. That’s exactly what they are asking me to provide.. The dealer name, address, zone number, and dealer number.. I appreciate all of the help from everyone. I’ll keep you in the loop as to what they tell me... John

Again, the NCRS already has the same Funston#'s in their database as of 1968, see below.
Unless your zone/dealer # is something different, all may just be a simple mistake?:hmmm:

NCRS data report service does not use the NCRS on-line table or database to issue information. NCRS uses the official information provided by GM. From what I have heard there are a few GM databases where they first obtain the zone and code and then cross-reference that to another database or 2 that cross references the zone and code to a dealer. The NCRS on-line database displays entries by people who provide the information based on their own information and documents. NCRS does not deem this information to be official GM info.

NCRS would not print "Funston" on my shipping report that I ordered either. Had to send them several of my docs before they would change it for me. My grandpa purchased our rally green z/28 there in 1969 and I have virtually every piece of paper that came with it.
They required multiple pieces and eventually the campaign claim for the "stop engine lift" recall convinced them. They sent me an updated report and I was told that my information was used to update the database... Seems you are having the same issue. GL

If you have already done all the leg work and NCRS has updated their internal databases, John should not have to go through the same process. GL maybe you can send John some information that may help him accomplish the same results as you had?
