I was wondering if there was any way to find out info on this dealer & possibly the cars paperwork or I just need to Pay for an NCRS report. I have a pic with the Bill Allen emblem on the back but I cant seem to get it to load.

Not sure which car you bought?
If it's believed or was sold as numbers matching meaning original drivetrain, I hope you verified that before buying but no, the VIN tells you nothing of the original engine that would have come in the car. The engine deck stamp will tell you what the Hp rating is. Again if the original engine is in fact in the car now. If it's not, only factory docs will tell you whether it was the base 396/325hp or the optional 396/360hp. Doubt it's the 396/375hp of which only 3099 were released.
The suffix code on the deck stamp will tell you whether it's 325 or 360. ED EDH EF etc. but you can't rely on that as FACT. Lots of restamps out there and knowing what the deck stamp for your car's assembly plant at the time your car was assembled ( engine ) plays into this as well. Each plant did things differently. Too many people just LOOK to see if the deck stamp MATCHES the VIN TAG. Plus the vin will be stamped on the transmission too if it was supposed to be original drivetrain.
Enjoy your car no matter what and post some pics

The car has AC so it can’t be an L78. It was either an L35 or L34.

if you need a 360hp engine, I pulled one out of a Chevelle I parted out back in the early 80's.

Bill Allen was in K.C. Missouri. He later supplied Dick Harrell with copos and other cars to undergo the D.H. Modifications and sold through D.H. I have a few emblems. Not sure which one you need. Sounds like a great car. I have several Bbc pieces for 66-7s just an fyi should you be looking?

If you have the Allen emblem on the rear car was probably sold from there, however it could have been a trade and ordered through another dealer. NCRS report will tell you that. Nothing short of original paperwork will tell you options and drivetrain. There are some telltale things in some models that can help determine, power train info but again, anything can be installed later. Post the trim tag if you get a chance or you can e-mail to me at
[email protected] and I can decode that for you if you want.

A Very Early car. Oct 1965.
Got a Malibu Grill in trunk and Leaves:)
If there's a Knee Knocker Tach by any chance still attached to lower dash. The redline will tell you Hp rating. In reality, it doesn't matter... Original engine is gone so even replacing with a similar won't make it original. With that rust, you have bigger issues to deal with.
At least it's not melting into ground

Should be a cool build. The car can be anything you want it to be.

In the auction, the rear was missing. Did you ever find out where it is?

The owner had bought the car years ago with No Rear end. My thoughts were to build it with a 427 I have & paint it back Black with a Black or Red interior. Not sure if I'm gonna put it back with Stock or Modified suspension.

I posted that in the ebay section while I was surfing the salvage section of ebay. Glad someone here was able to get it.
That can be a nice car on an ambitious project. One recommendation would be to have one of the experts in Chevelle's (not sure who maybe others know like MacNeish is on Camaros) to look at it before you start any work. It will never be numbers matching but at least you can (possibly) get a certification as to the big block SS providence.
Barring that, take plenty of pics before restoring to memorialize.
2500 was not a bad price.

The 138 VIN already proves the car being a big block SS. IMO, I wouldn’t waste any money on certifying that car, just build it into what you want. Like you said, it will never be a numbers car but at least it’s a real SS.

It may have been ordered by Bill Ireland Chevrolet and then traded to Bill Allen as a dealer swap, or the emblem could have been added at any time as a used car. In any case, the NCRS doesn’t lie.

Very common to see dealer trades like this especially with dealers so close together. Common for the new dealer to install their own name plate on the vehicle also.
Paul
Was there indeed a Bill Ireland Chevrolet in KC Mo?
