This past Sunday marked a very special and amazing day that our family (and now our extended family) will remember forever.

On Sunday afternoon Holly, my wife Lynn and I met up with the family who donated the heart to Holly, so that Holly would be able to live. Esther and Isidro Munguia in their time of extreme sorrow made the choice to donate all of their daughter Carmen's (she was also known as Carmelita) organs-when a horrible accident took place when Carmelita was four years old. We are so very fortunate that such a close knit and loving and caring family made the decision that they did-in their time of sorrow-so that Holly and others could benefit.

As Leticia (who is Carmelita's older sister) said, this meeting was 28 years in the making. Thank you Leticia and your family for welcoming us and making us feel like part of your amazing family. Also thank you for all of your hard work arranging this meeting and for providing the wonderful food and conversation as well.

As Leticia said, "A sweet little angel has joined our families together forever". I couldn't have said it any better- https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t6c/1/16/2764.png

In the first pic is Mr. and Mrs. Munguia with Holly. They donated the heart of their 4 year old daughter Carmelita, so that Holly would have a chance at life...

The second pic is Mr. and Mrs. Munguia with all of their children and Holly. Leticia is standing to the left of Holly.

The third pic is Lynn, Holly and I with Mr. and Mrs. Munguia.

They will all now be part of our extended family-forever. It truly was an amazing weekend!

wow. im totally speechless. I cant imagine the emotions of that meeting. god works in mysterious ways, takes people when we cant understand why. I lost my oldest son this last summer. he would have been 30 last week. we are still trying to figure out why and I am sure that her parents after all these years still ask the same. I have got to ask but did they put their ears to her chest to listen to their little girls heart beating? I think I would have had to.

They did put their hands on her chest to feel the heart beating. The meeting was a journey in emotions from laughter to tears and back again. There are so many similarities between our families as well.

You are right, God does work in mysterious ways. Sorry about the loss of your son

As others have said, what an amazing, sad, and wonderful story this is. That poor beautiful little Carmelita, those generous and caring parents, and your sweet daughter all coming together is truly what's best about this human race.

Happy for your family, and happy for the donor family. I can't imagine losing a child. Have had friends suffer that loss. However, if I lost a child (or even a grandchild.... which I also cannot imagine) I would want to know that even in the terrible suffering and pain, came a success story. Holly, you and Lynn are making them proud.

She was "right at home"! And yes, this was the first time any of us had met them.

Mrs. M took her aside and showed her the picture album with Carmelita from the time that Mrs. M was pregnant, to the Halloween pics right before the horrible accident.

They are people of tremendous faith-and compassion. We are blessed.

Bruce, this is the second time at an attempt to put down words to express my feelings after reading your post and seeing the family photos.

Words still escape me at the generosity and selfless giving towards others especially when a young life has been lost and another saved.

Christmas is the time for giving and your story about Holly and her donor tops them all!

Merry Christmas...

Regards Cal
