LOT# 1037 I am looking for the VIN# that is on the MP engine. This car sold in Texas would not have a MP engine. Can someone going to the auction set eyes on this car for me. Even a pic of the engine pad would be great. L156294 Sold at Dan Steakley in Temple, TX. There were only aprox. 78 built with K-19 smog for cars sold in California. My car is missing it's original MP engine. Thank you, Roger

FWIW, and not a Camaro..... For many years I owned a '67 396/4 speed El Camino, July '67 Fremont CA built, had K19, no restamp and verified by the real POP, sold new in Houston TX. I always assumed it was a dealer trade from a CA dealer.

Doesnt sound like it has the original engine. Says powered by an original MP code 302. I saw a torquise 67 at Indy one year with an MP in it but was a restamp. Interesting smog stuff

I thought 67&68 Z's had a MO engine code!!

They do with the exception of California cars, which come with smog so they are MP coded.

So, in 68 all Z's came with the smog system, correct...

Correct.

I suppose it could happen, but I don't see how a smog car not originally sold in CA would have it. Unless as stated, it was a dealer trade. That is for 67 only.

I bought a 67 Z sold new on Oregon that had it.

----Mandatory in California, optional everywhere else. Obviously not ordered outside of Cal very often..…..Bill S

----I should add that this only concerns the 1967 model year.

Not exactly 'ALL' - My '68 Norwood Zed was delivered and sold in Canada and was KD1 exempt as per the GM Documentation, thus no smog ever, so I assume any other similar '67's or '68's would have been the same here as well. I seem to recall some of the 396 cars I was looking at when car shopping back in that time zone, as have smog pumps but they were probably only 325 and 350hp models around here...
69's I'm not sure about - but believe they all had smog regardless of the engine size..

FYI...The low mile green 68 L78 at MCACN a few years ago was a Canada delivered smog delete car.

Lot 1037 is my car. It has a MP code engine in it but it's not original to the car. I dont have any pictures of the pad to post being it wasnt it's original engine I never took any. The history of the car is known and Jerry is going to inspect it before the auction starts.

I was led to believe that all '68 solid lifter cars with manual transmissions imported here were smog exempt.. so the L78 would probably qualify and make sense using that logic - fairly small volume (solid lifter 4 speeds, that is) all things and numbers considered though, compared to numbers in the US I guess.
I thought it was George Zappora that mentioned that to me, way back - but..

Good explanation of what Camaro’s received the smog equipment.

I owned a Canadian 68Z 28 it was a smog delete car. I checked with Jerry M & he told me my build sheet was correct the car was smog free. He also stated manifolds had plugs in them from the factory. This is the car.

Oddly, my Canada sold '68 L78 GM Canada docs do not reference A.I.R. system deletion. Unfortunately the car had headers installed very early in its life so any evidence of a smog system would have been long gone.

Wow...sold for $74,800...seems like a lot of car for that price!

The engine in this car was stamped with the MP engine code. And no VIN# on the engine. My opinion is that it was just a restoration engine re-stamped minus the VIN#.
