Hi there all, am new here & am trying to find some info on this L78 nova, I imported this car from Newport PA last year, brought 2 ss nova cars, a 71 ss 1 owner matching car which has had a rotisserie rebuild which took 18 mths, its a 350 manual car, 2nd car sold as a genuine L78 & I have no reason to question him as he is only a collector of gen 1 ss camaro & gen 3 ss nova cars, they were sold on the proviso that I was not on selling them, cant see the sense in putting all the time & money into them then selling. The info I’m after is on the L78 car which was a roller when I got her although I managed to get a set of 840 heads plus a JH block which I have managed to restore, had to have a autogear trans made as the trans was missing, this car was a bracket car somewhere in PA, too many telltale signs to say this car is a L78 , the manual drive tunnel had been hacked out as many were. The replacement engine no is TO 476JH-511132
The vin no is 114279W417284
Built 1st week feb 1969, Le Mans blue with black buckets
If anyone can help with any info it would be much appreciated.
Cheers.Phill from New Zealand

What exactly are you looking for?

Have you obtained the NCRS dealer info?

Just trying to find any history of any description, not that easy when you live on the other side of the world, tried dmv in Ohio & PA & no joy. Would be nice to know a little more. What I do know is Dunn- Chevrolet sold this car new from Curtis Ohio, Tried approaching Dunns but they dont have any info, nor does GM heritage , have been trying but due to lack of experience maybe not searching the right places, yes I do have the NCRS report, they were most helpful, thats how I found the Dunn info but the trail has gone cold

How did you search the DMV in Pennsylvania? It is important as to how you fill out the form.....

Ok, an email won't get it done in PA - that's for sure!!! I'd be glad to process the form on your behalf, do you want the last owner or the oldest owner?

OH has a decent online service:

That my friend sounds awesome, this is exactly why I joined this group as I was told to because of helpful people like yourself, if you want copies of the current PA title & body tag pics just let me know

Maybe I should read all the reply befor responding, I have the last owners name & contact details & have asked numerous time for owners prior to him, I think he is pretty broken that he sold the car in the 1st instance & still regrets selling, he does not respond to emails and I found the best way was to ph him direct but thats dried up too. So its the previous owner to him that I am after, hopefully somewhere in the trail we will find it’s authenticity as a L78

Ok, that is important because the PA form designates between Title Search versus Title History. Plus, I've learned over the years to add a notation about what I'm looking for, thus it generates better results.

Now for the bad news. There was a flood in PA in 1972 ( Hurricane Agnes, $2.3B in damage and 128 fatalities across the eastern US) that supposedly destroyed certain records within the DMV. This is why certain blocks of title info is missing, and one of those blocks is unfortunately early 1969. Our '69 Nova SS is an 02B build date (VIN is 417320), and the DMV replied that they do not have the original owner info for that time period. Let's hope that your 02A build date is unaffected, or that your car was still in OH back in that time period.

Hey there, tracked down the owner of our L48 car today, found her details & called her, it just made her day big time, she knew this car had come to NZ but never though she would find any info on it, sent a line of pics during the cars resto before & after & should get that tomorrow, she is looking for the original owners manual , hope she finds it, car was used for my sons wedding November 23 last year, new life for an old car with the next generation & teaching his kids to love old cars too
Keep hunting for that info on the L78, much appreciated
