This is a running L78 I am pulling out of my 69 L78 chevelle conv. The block is a CE block that was put in my car under warranty. The block casting number is 3939854 dated F670. The motor runs perfect with no problems I am only pulling it out to put a correct motor back in. The dist, carb, alt, water pump, fan and smog is original to the car so that is not being sold.

long block with intake 4400.00
long block no intake 4000.00
shortblock 3000.00

I have driven John’s 1969 L78 Convertible Chevelle numerous times, she drives and performs just as she should without any issues :)

I never abuse another man’s pride and joy.....unless the car owner tells me otherwise.
John would agree with me :)

John,If i read this right. you are pulling the CE motor original to your car, to put a correct motor in the car?????

Yes that is correct Chuck. I think people would rather have a correct dated motor than the CE.

If the CE engine is the actual one installed under warranty, I would rather have that than a "dated' engine with another VIN on it. That engine is part of the history of the car...to me that means more. :scholar:

You should consider keeping it with the car...IMHO.

good luck either way.

"CE under warranty" is better in my opinion than a correctly dated block that came from another car. That CE block was given only to your chevelle from GM Warranty. Wilma is right for once or maybe twice.

Not sure why but most buyers are only ok w a ce if its dated before the car ,which really defeats the purpose of having a ce.

Most car buyers and car enthusiasts are not even educated on CE blocks....which explains your statement.

I thought about which way to go for a while the original owner kept every dealer receipt for clutch adjustment, lifter adj, tune ups etc etc. The one receipt he didnt keep was the engine change. I do have a letter from him saying it dropped a valve under warranty and the dealer installed the engine. I know its got to be true because every part is the dated part off the original 69 engine but the short block and one head. If I had that one receipt saying it was changed under warranty I wouldnt be changing it. It still has the original motor mounts.

I bored three of those 854 blocks to 427s, never a problem.

Our 70 Gold L78 was punched out to 427...I had all the cylinders checked for thickness, they were fine, plenty of meat. It was about the best running of all the cars...stock motor, flat intake, no tricks...made about 440hp. on the dyno.

It was mated to the correct CW coded TH400 with factory 6 lug converter and 3.55 rear...it would really run. I miss it :frown:

**still think you should keep the CE motor with the car...

I would also have to vote also to leave it in. If that is the CE block that was installed back in the day by the dealer,...It should be with the car, and I would definetly be more impressed with that . Hey that’s only my opinion though, Your car , do what you want..
