Brake Dust from Brembo Brakes

I know some of you guys on here own 5th or 6th Gen Camaros. I own a 2017 SS I bought new. I only have just over 2,000 miles on it (it's not my daily driver). Since it was new I have noticed it produces a lot of black brake dust even now after 2,000 miles that really turns the silver wheels sort of a dark gray. Is this something that lessens as the brakes get more broken in, or is it a continuing problem? I asked my dealership service dept. about it and they just said that it's the price one pays for having high performance brakes and wasn't likely to lessen any.
I know I have seen numerous Mercedes and BMW's especially with much brake dust on mainly the front wheels. My Camaro has equal dust on the front and back wheels. I am constantly having to clean all 4 wheels. Let me know your experiences with your Camaros and brake dust. Thank you.

FWIW, my Buick Regal GS with Brembos does the same thing. Blackened wheels shortly after cleaning. Won't go away, sorry. But, niether will the awesome braking.
GM did offer a lower dust pad for the Buicks due to complaints but not sure if something similar is offered for the Camaro. I'll try to check.

We have a 2015 SS Sports Sedan with the Brembos and the same dust issue - this suggestion has been posted on the SS forums as well. I just ordered a set of the Z26 pads and will swap them out when the winter tires come off for the season.

As a follow up to this thread...…….I installed the Z26 pads this weekend when swapping the winter/summer tire setups on my wife's 2015 SS Sports Sedan. So far so good on the dusting. My initial impression on the test drive after the install was the ceramic pads have a much more linear feel - we'll see as we get a few more miles on them.


As an FYI our car has 28k miles and is a daily driver - the inboard pads on each caliper were a struggle to get out (they should slide right out after the two retaining pins and spring are removed). They were stuck in place due to a significant build up of brake dust. On the fronts I was able to loosen them up by using brake clean to clean out the accumulated dust, on the rears I had to remove the caliper to get the inboard pads off.


I will report back on performance once I get a chance to drive it more myself.

More follow up - after 4 days of my wife driving back and forth to work (12 miles round trip) there is virtually no brake dust on the wheels - so far so good.

I just put a set of Z26 pads and new OEM rotors all the way around on my 1LE. I've put around 800 miles on them and the brake dust is almost non existent now. They don't bite quite as well as the oem Brembo pads but for daily driver duty, they're perfect.
