Rally wheels were the "base" wheels in 72. There was a option for full wheel covers but that may not have been available with the ZR1.
Likewise with the T-tops (Coupe). They only had the T-tops or convertible. The T-top car was structurally stronger than the convertible, so if you were going to go racing it was a better platform to start with. This all goes away once you put a full cage in. That's not to say the convertible wasn't available with the ZR1. It may have been just like you could get a convertible L88.

A few years ago a fellow called me and asked me to look at a '72 ZR1 that was about 50 miles from me. I looked at it and he ended up buying the car. When he called to let me know he was going to purchase it, I told him that if he passed I was prepared to buy it with his permission. We've become friends and that car will be at the NCRS Nationals next week.

The ZR2/ZR1 and LT1/LS6 cars are quickly becoming my favorite 'final muscle cars' ... What a beast.

For someone to buy that car 47 years ago with some sort of strategy to never title it is interesting . I have friends that have done it the last 20-30 years and I’m doing it with a late model, but that blows my mind to see almost 50 years pass.
It will be interesting to watch the auction unfold or does it get snapped up on the BIN?
