Went to the RM Auburn auction yesterday and saw a 69 COPO Camaro for sale in the car corral. Cortez silver over black std, 4 speed, 0513 BE rear, 06C build date. Looked to be nicely restored with spoilers added (no D80 on the tag). It had GM Canada docs along with an Ed Cuneen certification. I had never heard of an X66 COPO beyond the early Yenko conversions? For some dumb reason I didn't take any pics to post here.....

Never seen a 06C build Camaro before?? All the trim tags for June built Camaros I have seen are 06A, if it's a Norwood car.

Did you happen to note the asking price?

It belonged to Mershons and the asking price was 129,900. I took a picture of the trim tag but no other pics.

If the claim is a copo, then , of course, it would have to be a Norwood car. No 6C Camaros out of Norwood, as the quoted poster states.

Youd think the guy stamping the trim tag would know that....funny that a guy looking at my friends 19k copo w orig drivetrain backed out because he saw this car for 139k and decided to pursue it.

Do we know who restored the car?

Where in Canada did it come from?

I wonder if the 06C is a typo by the OP? and Should have been 05C?
The diff is a sat date in 1969 BTW. My Z is 06A, actually built June 21. 0602 diff date.
Any one know the vin of COPO?

What did the GM Canada docs state?
X2 on the TRIM TAG.

I saw the car and took pictures of it along with the TT and paperwork. Of course they are too big and won't download. The VIN is 124379N659193 and the body number is NOR357112. As noted the trim tag is a reproduction. Ed's paperwork is dated 6/10/04. There were no GM of Canada docs on display. The selling dealer is Park Lane Motors in Sarnia ON. This car has been discussed here before.

Holy cow, I had no idea this post would resurrect a 17 year old discussion. They were asking $129,900 for the car.

That car has got so much history around here, you best run for the hills.

If you had the misfortune and bought it, which one did you get, the bogus car with the original tag or the real shell with the bogus tag. Good luck.....lol.

There are some folks on this site that know all to well about that car.....enough said.

Wow what a crazy story and clear reminder to bring cars to this site for insight as we’ll hiring reputable inspectors. That’s a ton of money!

I’m sure there’s a number of legit cars out of Canada, but over the past couple of years I’ve seen a lot of fakes. There are a number of cars that are completely made up around the GM of Canada docs. Canadian cars freak me out anymore.

Lots of fake cars out of the US too, At least with Canadian docs you con prove its a “Real” car like a Z or COPO or 375 hp.
Unfortunately greed gets the better part of people when it comes to money, it’s not about the cars any more but profit .

Best to sell this stuff at auction so there is no warranty after 24 hrs....perfect

so i am going to guess that maybe whoever ended up owning the real copo body found out it was a real copo thru vintage services. If that body has the original unmessed with hidden vin#'s. And he locates the fake body. One phone call would make a very bad day for the guy with the fake body, and a real happy owner of a real copo. The police or FBI impound both cars and do an investigation. If your a gambler, roll the dice......

Canadian docs only prove that the car DID exist. Years ago, apparently Can. paperwork included a page that listed other cars also. Unfortunately atleast a few cars “reappeared” after years being lost because of Canadian docs.

Exactlly! That page was the GM microfiche, the first of them even had the key codes on them, GM started blotting out the key codes, then completely eliminated that page later in future vintage vehicle requests. Early reports were just hand typed on a piece of paper with options & codes then later ones were on a GM letter head and then later yet were embossed with a corporate stamp seal. Now they don’t say GM, just Vintage Vehicle Services.
