View Full Version : Daytona Yellow 69 Camaro X11-X22-X33 Wanted

I'm looking for a nicely optioned Daytona Yellow 69 Camaro with X11, X22 or X33 coding and deluxe interior group. First preference would be a Z/28 with 712 or 713 interior trim and bonus would include Z22 and/or VE3 options. Second preference is an RS/SS four-speed car with deluxe interior.
In either case, car would need to have original body lines and stance, and must be original 76 paint code with three pedals in it. Small or big block is alright, but I do like solid lifters. :grin:
A solid driver, clean survivor, or a nicely restored original.

I'm hoping my original post finds a clean Z/28 or RS/SS car as described. Must have an X code. Maybe a car that's hidden away in someone's shop in New Mexico that isn't being enjoyed anymore? I know of one member who said their DY car might become available sometime?

Was just asking overall if you wanted a x22 tag simply to document the car, or a documented car would trump the trim tag code or lack of X code designation .

I don't know if docs are going to trump a car with an untouched trim tag and good VIN numbers, but if the paper is good and the owner history can be fact checked then the paper becomes a tangible asset just as much as the untouched trim tag or the sum of it's parts. Of course we have all seen that anything worth forging, can be done to a masterful degree by others, and that is the unfortunate part of the hobby. The trick today is becoming well rounded in all particulars of a cars pedigree including it's construction, all of it's components, and any owner history or docs that may help substantiate the claims made by the seller/s. IMO, the better the car, the more its provenance should align. There are a lot of turds out there and one must perform their due diligence to weigh the cars authenticity before acting. Anything less would be foolish as the saying goes.
On the 69 Camaro, I happen to like untouched X code tags with original filler, correct construction throughout, factory piercings, date alignment, number matching parts, original stamps, factory broach marks, owner history and of course a host of bulletproof docs. For all of that, there is a premium to be paid, however that's not exactly what I was asking for. I asked for a clean car with specific RPO options list and a clean tag which easily identifies a given pedigree from a glance. That X code simply helps dispel myths and rumors from the get go. Depending on the level of car and the price being asked, some or perhaps many of the above tangibles will need to align. For a #1 driver, I might overlook the block being a mismatch, parts being MIA or a transmission being hurt. On the other hand, for a concourse restoration or a really nice survivor car, it's weight is measured by how much of it is original and factory correct. All of this being said, I would likely consider a non X code car if it presents well and passes the scrutiny of a closer inspection, but I'm still going to give preference to an X coded car that checks out the same in all other areas.
In terms of the 69 cars, I'm pretty knowledgeable, sagacious (there's a word for the day) and have been well coached by others. I know what to look for on most of these cars...and I never discount anything before weighing it thoroughly. Docs inclusive! Thanks for the engaging process of thought Chuck.

I should add that I have a friend who's also looking for a 69 Z. A numbers car that is very nicely built and supported with docs. He likes bright colors too but may settle on others if it's well done car.

I've seen this one before but have not seen it in person. It appears to be an X77 base car with base 711 interior. While I'm not going to discredit the car or its marketing, I will simply say that this car is not for me.

I believe Jersey Jeff mentioned on Facebook the other day that he might be selling his. Original L89 car now with 427. Might not be what you are looking for but he is a member here. The looks of this car are tough to beat!

Have a non X code Oct 68 built L89, 38K original miles w docs, full owner history from day one w mileage and bills of sales since 1969 , purchased from the guy that sold it new and he had bought it back from filed paperwork he retrieved when the dealer closed up. Dennis Collins chased this car for years and called me the day he got it. Deluxe interior 100% original no repro , 3 pedal M22 rockcrusher car, 18 factory options, Daytona yellow with black stripes/black top /black interior . May? be selling shortly. A deal on my 71 cuda is imminent,and will determine the fate of the L89 .

Lemans blue X77D80. A very very clean late 69 with 49,000 miles and car having born with parts throughout. Pics when the deal is wrapped up and I've picked up the car.
Did I mention Lemans blue is my 2nd favorite color? :-)

I got what the car had Chuck. A killer numbers matching drive line, and a car with so much originality going for it that it's making me dizzy with excitement.
Maybe deluxe will come on the next car. :tongue:
