View Full Version : Scr23
Though we won’t have the dates set for SCR23 for a while, the event will be around the same time as in the past, late July, utilizing the same venues, Beech Bend Raceway Park and the National Corvette Museum.
Something new for SCR23, will be a special display or two. The Corvette Museum has graciously agreed to allow us to park a few cars in the main corridor of the museum. This will allow us room for more cars without crowding the main hall.
Being the 50th anniversary of the 1970 Yenko Deuce (and COPO Novas) we are inviting all owners of these cars to attend SCR23. As we did several years ago, would be really cool to get one of every color.

That’s great Tom..The area that we are getting is outside in the Boulevard area it is still inside the building and it runs from the Corvette café down to the Corvette Museum the logistics tells us it holds roughly 20 cars we would love to have a display of two different models of cars 10 on each side of the aisle they are nice enough to give us this area and they are going to remove the Corvettes that are being delivered and are on display it should be exciting I would love to see The area that we are getting is outside in the boulevard area it is still inside the building and it runs from the Corvette café down to the Corvette Museum the logistics tells us it holds roughly 20 cars we would love to have a display of two different models of cars 10 on each side of the aisle they are nice enough to give us this area and they are going to remove the Corvettes that are being delivered and are on display it should be exciting I would love to see all 10 colors of the Yenko Deuce cars

Tom/Doug, please correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand it, we're hoping for July 23, 24 & 25. We have tentatively reserved TWO weekends at the Corvette Museum while we await a confirmed date with Beech Bend Raceway. Doug has also received a note from the host hotel, the Holiday Inn University Plaza, so it appears things are headed in the right direction for another great weekend.
As Tom and Doug stated above, the National Corvette Museum has offered to expand the area inside to allow us to host even more cars inside the building. The Boulevard area puts us dead center in the main traffic area for maximum exposure to hundreds of people, and leads them directly to the banquet room where we've been for the past few years. We'll also still have the covered outdoor area around the banquet room as in the past.
Bowling Green is a great town, full of car-crazy folks and they've all been great to work with. It appears the SCR has found a long-term home and I couldn't be happier.
SCR 23, ..... here we come!

I can't wait! I've been trying to round up some more cars to attend. I know of several that would fit right in the muscle car class, but I have to convince the owners to show up. '66 Chevelle SS396 all original drive train, '67 Corvette 427 435HP, '69 Corvette 427 390 HP, 426 Hemi Super Bee and some more. I'm making some more changes to mine over the winter and it should be into the 10s this time.

Something new this year from our friend Freddie Byars. Joining the COPO Pete Shootout Trophy created by Shawn Huffman will be the new Muscle Car Shootout Trophy created and donated by Freddie.
As with the COPO Pete Trophy, the winner will have their name attached to the trophy and will retain ownership and bragging rights for one year. Then they must return the trophy to the following SCR and either try to defend their title or relinquish it to the new Shootout Winner.
Our sincere Thanks to Freddie for his creativity and generosity, as well as his continued support and friendship. You've all seen what Freddie is working on to improve the performance of his Camaro so I'm thinking he plans to take that trophy back home with HIS name attached as the First Muscle Car Shootout Champion.

UPDATE !
With all the dismal reports of postponements, reschedules and cancellations we see every day, we would like to offer a bit of hope for our Summer activities.
At this point, SCR 23 is STILL ON!
First: We're happy to announce that, with the help of our great friend and long-time supporter Mr. Chuck Hanson, we will welcome Mr. Bill Tichenor, VP of Marketing at HOLLEY, as our Guest Speaker at the Friday evening Banquet. Bill and Chuck have been friends for over 25 years and Bill has been with HOLLEY for at least that long. Based in Bowling Green, HOLLEY has been a sponsor of previous SCRs , a huge sponsor at most events at Beech Bend and Bill has a wealth of experience and knowledge in our hobby. This should prove to be an interesting and enjoyable evening.
Another positive note: we have extended the Early Registration Discount indefinitely! We understand everyone's uncertainty about their plans for the near future so the Early Registration Fee of $150 will be honored up to the date of the event. See the Registration Form posted here earlier.
You may have heard The National Corvette Museum is currently closed but they have a schedule for reopening and we receive regular updates from them as this progresses.
Obviously we're at the mercy of the State of Kentucky and our venues (the Holiday Inn University Plaza, Beech Bend Raceway Park and the National Corvette Museum), but as of today we have NOT received word from anyone indicating a possibility of cancellation.
We're ALL looking forward to that time when this is in our rear-view mirrors, but until then let's all keep positive thoughts and do what we can to stay healthy. We hope to see you all in Bowling Green in July. THANK YOU!

We're only five weeks away from SCR 23 and everything is looking GREAT! Covid19 restrictions are easing up and the reservations coming in are starting to reflect that.
Here's where we stand at the moment:
The Host Hotel, the Holiday Inn University Plaza, is preparing things as they have in the past. The Thursday evening "Meat 'n Greet" meal is under control, guided by Mr. Jason Ball. There will be porta-pottys on the grounds in the paddock area and security is provided for trailer parking on Thursday and Friday nights. The Holiday Inn has extended the pre-registration date AND made a few more rooms available in the SCR block.
Beech Bend Raceway Park is open and ready to welcome us on Friday, July 24th. Not only will we have the drag strip for the day, we're also ready to host the first SCR Autocross for the YENKO STINGER Corvair group.
The National Corvette Museum is open and will have plenty of room for our Banquet on Friday evening and the Indoor Show on Saturday, July 25th.
The National Corvette Museum has also arranged for us to have additional space in their Boulevard Area to display the Feature Cars of SCR 23, The YENKO STINGERs and the YENKO DEUCEs.
We have our Guest Speaker for the Friday Banquet and this week we have confirmed our SCR 23 Honoree. That person will be announced very shortly.
The event shirt is at the printer and we'll give you a glimpse of that when we announce our 2020 Honoree.
If you haven't made your room reservations yet please take note:
If you call during the day, ask to speak to Seth, the General Manager. Some of you may have experienced some difficulty previously but a couple of people called this week and their total time on the phone with Seth was under three minutes! The direct number at the hotel is 1-270-745-0088. Again, ask to speak to Seth, the General Manager and be sure to mention code SCR.
Time is drawing near so make your plans for what may be the First Real Event of 2020. Safe practices are always a good idea so be considerate, stay healthy and we hope to see you all very soon!

Oh and lets tell people they can't go into Churches to worship but it's ok to protest in mass numbers on city streets.
I realize this is a real virus but I'm not "drinking the whole container of Kool Aid" here. It's a fact the numbers are being skewed.
Notice how this has become a major news topic again now that the protesting and rioting has subsided... LOL

This is from the Kentucky Government Website. This info is most current and dated 07/09/2020.
Kentucky’s new executive order requires Kentuckians to wear face coverings under several circumstances for the next 30 days. The order will be evaluated during that time to determine any additional steps or extension.
The executive order states that face coverings will be required:
“While inside, or waiting in line to enter, any: retail establishment; grocery store; pharmacy; hair salon/barbershop; nail salon/spa; tattoo parlor; child care facility; restaurant or bar (when not seated and consuming food or beverage); health care setting, or; any other indoor public space in which it is difficult to maintain a physical distance of at least six feet from all individuals who are not members of that person’s household;
“While waiting for or riding on public transportation or paratransit, or while riding in a taxi, private car service, or ride-sharing vehicle, or driving any of the above while customers are present; or
“While in outdoor public spaces in which the person cannot maintain a physical distance of six feet from all individuals who are not members of the person’s household and is not otherwise covered by previously issued guidance.”
There are several exemptions to the order, including children who are 5 or younger and any person with a disability, or a physical or mental impairment, that prevents them from safely wearing a face covering. To read the executive order and more exemptions, click here.

UPDATE !
And it's Good News.
Some of you may have heard that the Kentucky Governor tightened COVID restrictions lately. As of 5 PM today we received word that SCR 23 is considered a "Professional Event" and therefore exempt from the 'crowds of 10 or less' guideline. (And you all thought we were just a bunch of amateurs and hillbillies, didn't you!)
WE'RE STILL MOVING FORWARD!
With that good news comes some strong recommendations. We are asking everyone to PLEASE bring masks and be prepared to wear them. And, if possible, bring multiples in case you misplace one, or maybe some to share with friends.
Regardless of how you feel about the entire COVID 19 situation, social distancing, etc is just common sense and good old-fasioned respectful behavior.
So PLEASE, Stay Safe, Stay Healthy and we look forward to seeing everyone this weekend in Beautiful Bowling Green!

So my younger daughter was attending a safe driving school at the Corvette museum on Saturday, and we decided to come down the day before to tour the museum. Imagine my complete delight when I stumbled onto this! I was like a kid in a candy store. My only regret is that I missed the racing because frankly, I had no idea this was going on this weekend. I thought I would share a few pictures I snapped. Unfortunately, I don't see an icon allowing me to upload them.

The weather was pretty good for race day. It was very hot and the air was not good for ETs, but it didn't rain until we were finished and back at the museum. There were a few cars that broke stuff, but no crashes this year, and everything that was damaged can be fixed easily. I'm sure that many pictures will be posted later. My GoPro decided that it was just too hot to work, so I didn't get any in car video of me missing 3rd gear this year.
There were several regulars that didn't make it this year. We missed Ken Barnhart, Dennis Crumby, Bob McClurg, the whole MASCAR team and several others. Covid 19 kept some of them from making it. I hope to see them next year.

Maybe, would be between me and Benny. Looks like he dialed at 10.46 for the shootout, but may have been sand bagging, you know how racers are. LOl
I wanted to run him, just for fun, but seems we were never in the lanes at the same time, and after the shootout, everyone was ready to get out of the heat and get to the museum. May happen though, as we talked about meeting somewhere, like the Columbus area, to race and just hang out.

What is the story of the green 70s Camaro. I really enjoyed seeing this at Beech Bend. Custom fender flares.....day 2......wow!
1973, knew about the car for 20 years or so, purchased late last year from original owner. Tons of paperwork. Modified by Yenko then sold through Jay Kline. 427 CI with aluminum heads, beefed up 400 turbo trans, special 12 bolt rear, etc. Seems almost every part on the car has been modified, all documented.
A prototype, one of one, last Yenko BBC, only 2nd gen Yenko BBC, only BBC documented to have come with aluminum heads, etc.
Was looking for a Yenko for my grandson Drew to race, he loves it. Has a worn out SBC in it now, this Fall/Winter will put a aluminum headed in it.

First of all I would like to Thank all involved in this meet.
After a 9 hour drive and to be welcomed by everyone was just great!
Tom, the venue was great, Loved it!
Jason, food was the best “When’s the next cookout”
And to Doug and Jamie I had a great time and was able to meet a
Lot of faces to put names to.
So glad I asked you Doug what this show was like.
Know I didn’t have a car involved but would be glad
To help out with anything you guys might need in the future.
For anybody that would consider bringing a car my suggestion

Those of you who were at the SCR this year probably know that I have a hard time finding 3rd gear. I put this in today to try and fix that problem. I'll get back to Beech Bend in a few weeks to see how it works out. Now I need to find one of those T handles with the button in the end for the line lock.
