I often say what a small world our hobby/community is. With that being said, the MCACN team is honored to play a small part in a very special Unveiling at MCACN this year.

Joe Guzak was a customer at my old Detroit area memorabilia store, Auto Know. Back in 1970, he special ordered a 1970 Stage 1 Buick that truly is a one-off car.

Shortly after taking delivery, Joe installed a set of Motor Wheel Spyders. These were not the usual Spyders, as they were 15 x 8.5”, wider than what you or I could buy. Joe terrorized the streets of Lansing for several years, eventually parking the car in the 70’s. Life would go on, and with every intention of restoring the car one day, it would sit in his garage for over 30 years. Finally, Joe started to resurrect the G.S., but again hit a few bumps in the road. Then in August of 2014, it happened. Joe had a major stroke and we all thought we would lose him. Good news is, we didn’t, but Joe is now dealing with some physical ailments.

So as a student, Joe was part of the Project W31 team that we had the honor of hosting at MCACN last year. When the “old gang” got together at MCACN for the MSU Project W31 deal, several of the guys asked about the old Buick. Joe explained that he still had it and it was surrounded by N.O.S. parts that he had collected over the years for the restoration. It was pretty clear to the guys that Joe had all but given up on completing the restoration.

And this is another reason why I love my job. Several of the guys got to talking about what they could do to bring this car back to its original glory, as Joe intended. Well, a team was quickly assembled, a restoration shop chosen, and they were off and running!

I am pleased to say the crew is now doing the final detailing in preparation for the Unveiling which will take place Saturday, November 23 at 12:00 Noon. This one will be right in the center of the Day 2 Invitational display.

Please plan on joining us, as this may epitomize what our awesome hobby is all about.

The 1970 Buick Stage1 has always been on my top pedigree Muscle Cars list.

I can’t wait to see it :)

Yeah, but Bob, when you’re assembling that 1000 piece desert sand dune mega-puzzle, you’re that piece of “sand” that holds you up from finishing the rest of remaining 950 pieces. And once you find that piece, the rest of the puzzle falls in place.

So you see? You’re that sand dune puzzle piece that makes it all come together!!:eek2::hmmm::biggthumpup::biggthumpup:

I think that’s an accurate description!

Cheers:beers:
