Is that a D in the partial vin?

Bad in my opinion.

The partial VIN doesn't make any sense to me. What is "D" for an assembly plant? Van Nuys was L and Norwood was N. The sequence number is way out also. seems weird the broach marks end as it goes under the head, doesn't it?

Yes looks like a D

Im not a 70's expert on this stuff - so appreciate the feedback.....

agree with the broach mark comment - seems weird to me too

Eddie, I’m no expert on stamps, but Camaros were only built in Norwood which would be an N in the vin, or Van Nuys which would be an L. Sequentially, I’m pretty sure they started at 500000. Therefore, I don’t like it!

Is it a whole car? Or just the engine?

whole car - but i don't have the VIN currently - that would tell about the vin stamp for sure

Did they go back to the vin on the pad in 70 or just on Los Angeles cars?

Just LA. It was I've read a GMAD vs. Fisher Body thing. When Norwood went GMAD in 72, they moved to the pad like LA.

Doesn't resemble original stamps in my database

Thats correct.

I had an original 70z engine and the VIN stamping was down by the filter. NOR car stamped V0518CTB.
This stamping above has some issues. Isnt D for Doraville?? Plant that made the big cars. Definately is not a Camaro VIN.

Whats the casting number on the back of the engine?

D was indeed used for Doraville, but that CTB code was used for a 1972 Impala series with a 240HP/402cid.

But in 1970 it was a 350 LT1 4-spd

OK I will clarify the stamping. It is completely incorrect from fonts, codes & broach marks.

Another heavily belt sanded deck. Not even close to original, like noted.

Doesn't this area appear to show a lack of machining as though it were not level with the rest of the block?

Also agree the broach marks nor the assembly stamp are not at all typical.

Stamps look a little deep to me. I would say that is a restamped block...

Just curious. What is the block cast date? Does it align with the assembly date? Nothing makes sense with the vin and the stamp. Surely a restamped block as I see it and agree with others posted hear earlier. 1970 CTB blocks only have 3 partial vin car line plant uses. W for Willow run for 1970 nova's yenko deuce. L for Vannuys 70 z28 stamped on front pad. N for Norwood 70 z28 stamped on block near oil filter. Not sure where the deuce was stamped.

Deuce partial VIN stamp is located top-side of block.
