Check out the 72 Z28 that popped up on CL the other day...
I didn't want to post until we had the car picked up and on it's way to South Carolina -
Woman(widow) who was selling said it was her husband's and the car was older than she was and her husband had it before they were married. (looking at the CL ad she really had no idea - edelbrock carb? - but a holley is on it... - 6 cyl?
ANYWAY... here are the options -
Z28, 4 spd, console, dlx interior, custom seat belts, AM/FM, rear defog, style trim, recessed wipers, spoilers and stripes. GULF GREEN. The original air cleaner is in the trunk. Didn't ask too many questions due to the price...

FWIW it has the original shift knob (72 and 73 only) as well as some of the original lug nuts along with the non existent Original trunk mat.
The woman said it is silver but the driver picking up said it's light green - IMHO The car COULD be PEWTER which sometimes looks like gulf green and sometimes looks silver.

Photo of the car on the trailer - also two original paint PEWTER Paint 72's.

Wow nice buy for sure. Solid car. If it were me , i detail this car and leave it as is. Add the missing Z-28 emblem and other missing parts with used pieces that look original and faded with the car. Enjoy.

That's the current plan... the car is a cali/AZ car it's entire life and there is no rust showing so it is in all likely hood as solid as it appears. MAY have to put a Vtop back on - though a new top may be WAY out of place - having an aged one would make the look, we shall see.

It appears to have the same fan as my brother's 73 Z28. Did they switch to a NON clutch fan in 1972?

Nice find. I need to find one like that to build with my son. We are on the hunt ourselves.

Have fun with that one. Looks super clean.

What is the build date on the trim tag?

What is the build date on the trim tag?

When it arrives I will let you know... still don't know if it's Gulf Green or Pewter.

That is awesome. My dad and I did my 68 together. I've had it for 17 years. Many memories together restoring that car.

My dad and I did a 1940 FORD 2 door Sedan from when I was a toddler (he has a photo of me @3y/o with my blanket taking screws out of the interior of the car) to about 11, then when I was 12 we did a 57 Chevy for me before I could drive and we went to as you can go west in Tennessee to drag back two 1940 FORD WOODIE WAGONS -loaded with bees which chased us while loading... which my dad restored for the next 5 years - in the meantime we played with 442's GTO's Chevelles NOVAS Z28's and chased more flatheads than I can remember, then mid 80's my brother and I went Camaro crazy.
PLUS my mom drove a Red over Black 67 Camaro Convertible for all my youth - shuffling us to soccer and baseball from when we were little - I drove the Camaro convertible with the top down(full visibility :naughty:) for my drivers license test.

I believe they did switch to the NON- Clutch fan. Yes i see it was a vinyl top car and agree maybe you can find a good used one. Yes clean the car from top to bottom and engine compartment and inside interior. Love the original look like i stated earlier.

----That 72 pewter color is a favorite of mine. I ordered a 72 Grand Prix SJ that color with matching fabric gut and white vinyl top. Very cool! I liked it so much that I painted a 70 Chevelle LS56 convert the same color with white SS stripes and white top several years later. Someone on this sight posted a pic of the Chevelle at Super Chevy Sunday in Indy around (probably) early 80's......Bill S

Wow. Great find. I guess this is the week for 2nd gen finds. My brother's buddy just picked up a completely original 71 LS3 SS396 Camaro 4 speed. Real clean with original paint and for the same amount. $1,500. I'm looking at the pics and it doesn't look like there is a speck of rot on it. I wish I found that one.

Yeah, I tried to explain to my wife what treasure is in my shop, but she just said that when I'm gone she is having a scrap metal guy come over and clean the place out.

A friend of mine who knew he was passing had a sign made for his funeral that said "To my friends, don't let my wife sell my cars for what I told her I paid for them". He was a character to the very end.

You should think about sending her a Christmas card with about 500 cash in it. She would be thrilled and you'd feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Wow, thats a deal. Hard to pull these off without outside interference. Almost have to beg the seller to pull the ad and send a decent down payment right away to secure it.
For $1500 I dont think I would bother looking at it too much either. Just try to get the deal done and the car out of there.

I couldn't find a complete solid 72 Z28 for $1500 35 years ago, my dad and I looked for I cannot tell you how long. I was born in 72. My brother was born in 73 and still has his 73 RS LT Z28 he got in the late 1980's, we paid 3500 for it back then.

Agreed. I remember looking for a 70-73 in the 1979-80 era for a Z as decent as the car this thread topic is about in that price range or even more (in 79-80 dollars) and zero luck.

It's PEWTER / black roof and blk custom interior.... code 14 B
19 of the 20 original lug nuts along with the original front spoiler braces.
AND a photo of the car nearly NEW... the title shows the car was bought in California in MARCH 1972 and ZERO miles. 12A built.
Title Transferred to AZ in 1982.
