The guy I got this from said he bought it in the mid 70's from a Chevy dealer. It is a high performance distributor based on the MS 360 advance and CCW 530 cam.

Is anybody else aware of distributors being sold with no stamping?

BTW I carefully measured this and compared it to an original. It's real.

I do have 2 blanks just like that, there are alot of blank early alternators too ...not sure what advances and shafts are in them though .

I have bought both stamped and unstamped distributors, some from Chevrolet, and others from Delco Remy warehouses sellers back in the 70's and 80's when I was working at a AC Delco affiliated auto parts store. The only unstamped one I have at the moment is one I used in my 67 Caprice that has a 201 advance can and a 728 ccw points cam. I can't even remember what number it was ordered under. It was that long ago.

Like others have said, I have personally seen only one unstamped Dist and it was an NOS one in the box. That was 25 years ago.

20 years ago, I bought a 499 distributor from a guy who worked at a Cardone warehouse. He would look through the remanufactured stock for desirable numbers for alternators and distributors. It had the wrong vacuum advance on it, but the guy was not interested in looking for the correct one. I went to a local O'Riley's and talked to the store manager, was more that happy to order 5 and let me look at them. One of the 5 had the correct advance so with the manager's fupp approval, I bought it switched out the vacuum advance, and returned it with the other advance on it. Needless to say, he was a real car guy. Since then, I have never even set foot in any auto parts store other than that one.

My 70Z had one when I bought it in '78. Had the 201 can and the 532 advance cam. Checked the diameter and it wasn't turned, not that anybody even thought of something like that back then anyway.

FWIW that one in the OP's post looks to be turned to remove the stamps. Just my opinion. The 3 deep grooves just taper off to nothing right in the area where it would be stamped. Other opinions?
