I've probably been on 10-12 cruises and we love them. I've probably been on one or both of those ships before, but we've never ever even come close to another ship. Not sure how that would happen with all of the precautions they take.

We did go several miles out of our way one time to rescue a little 22 ft fishing boat off Mexico that ran out of gas. It was interesting to watch a behemoth cruise ship try to get close to a tiny boat to give it some gas. I can imagine what it looked like from that little boat. From what I heard, when you get an SOS from another vessel, any other vessel, you're obligated by maritime law to assist. Not sure if that is accurate but makes sense.

I have been on probably 7 or 8 cruises. I love them also. This last year we had a medical emergency on board while sailing back to Miami and had to stop off the coast of Kingston Jamaica to let the sick passenger off.

I'm curious to know how that accident happened. Every time I have sailed they seem to be very safety conscious.

Don't the harbor pilots take over control of the ships at this stage? I heard the harbor pilots have no liability.

I have a cool video of an at sea rescue 20 miles off the shore of Spain last year on our trip. The seas were too rough for us to go to port so they came out to get a sick passenger, it was a few floors above us and it was a terrifying night evacuation.
