Could it be possible that the JL8 option was ever ordered/installed on a standard 1969 Camaro that is factory equipped with a 307ci engine and a Saginaw 4 speed transmission? Thanks in advance!

Yes, it could be ordered with any 1969 Camaro regardless of options.

Yes, Gregg found that very set up. I saw it when he brought it home after pulling it out of a California field.

The option was more expensive by a significant amount if it was not a Z28 or SS I believe... ~$625.00 sticks in my head? ~

Mine was ordered with 307, 4 speed, factory air, blue light stereo, vinyl top and of course the JL8 option. It had June of 1969 dated Delco air shocks and trailer wiring still present when I found it. It was delivered new to a dealer about 30 miles from the Van Nuys plant but was built in Norwood due to the JL8 option.

Good memory! Per CRG Options list:
$623.50 for non-SS, non-Z/28
$500.30 for SS and Z/28

Does that mean no JL8-optioned cars were assembled at LOS, or just in the timeframe yours was built?

The CRG db has a number of Van Nuys built JL8 cars.

Lee, that is my car. I'll get some updated pics when it stops raining!
William, I don't know why the car was built in Norwood but it's a good chance it had to do with the JL8 option. Maybe the unusual gear ratio for a JL8?

Nope. The NCRS date for the car is June 3. Van Nuys was on strike at the time.

Just when you thought you've seen it all. A 307 stick car no less.
Would love to hear the story of the original owner's reasoning of such a expensive option on a base car.

My guess would be for towing. I wonder if the extra cost is because the non Z28 cars had 14" wheels and the JL8 required 15" wheels/tires.

Plus the multi-leaf springs, if the car wouldn't already have had them?

Any known L-78 or pacer JL-8's?
I almost bought a fathom green L-78 at carlisle many years ago. The car came with original paperwork, window sticker, etc. Even had a form with the listed options that the salesman ordered for the buyer. One option was JL-8, but when delivered. the car came without the rear discs (because the option apparently was cancelled I assume).
Anyone remember that car? If my memory is correct, it had Deluxe interior, no console, center tach and cowl hood, 4.10 rear. I believe m-22 also. Came with window sticker. Had rust around the rear window. Was 3800 bucks. I offered 3500 which was all I had on me. Guy would not even take a deposit. I left that day and drove two hours home and went back the next day with full 3800, but it was sold.

Was that about 1987-ish? I remember a similar car - pretty rusty too. As I recall the guy left all the paperwork including the title on the dashboard overnight and the paperwork was stolen.

Could have been.. car needed sheetmetal in the rear yes. Back then that scared everyone away. They did not make any repo parts yet or that rear panel between the rear window. But it ran real nice!
....the car and the guy were gone the next day when I went back. :(
Never heard about car again.

Had a few LM1 4 sp.'s that had tow hitches. Seems a lot cheaper and you got a 350, 12 bolt and multi-leaf.

At a friends shop for front end alignment, a/c charge and a few final mechanical adjustments. As soon as I get it home the door mirror, passenger seat and door panel, sun visors and console get installed. I think I'll finally call it finished after 15 years!
I'll get some better pics after I get it home.
Here's a after / before. Hard to believe it's mostly (some new sheetmetal) the same car. I have to say I had a few knowledgeable Camaro enthusiasts tell me to part this car out after I found it due to the value of the JL8 rear. It's been a long road for this car due to life's circumstances but I am proud to have saved this particular car.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
Yes, I lived in California when I bought it. It came from a weed filled back yard in San Diego County.
I considered putting the hitch back on but have decided against it.
Lee, if I keep the car I'll definitely look into the vanity plate. Just not sure if it fits into future plans at this point.

I remember when this car was posted on the internet years ago. Such a neat thing that you restored it. It really is a special car. Great job!

I would beware of the JL8 vanity plate. I have considered the same for my car in Alabama, but worry that it might attract even more potential thieves. But I guess if someone knows what JL8 is that wants to steal a car, they know how to spot one without a vanity plate, so maybe not a big deal either way. Very nice looking restoration and unique car.

Nice plate Charlie
I could think of a picture or two that would go along nicely with either of those plates. Maybe an X33 car, 72 coded with ohhhh...say white deluxe guts and a few nice options?
