I am currently detailing engine compartment on my Pace car. It is a super nice car, but over the past 40 years a lot of parts just ended up paint black.
Can you share some pictures of either z28 or pace car engine compartment pictures that are correct. This was the starting point. I now have the fenders and wheels off. I am not looking to over restore, just make it nicer.
Thanks Dan

This car really deserve it. It was so nice taking a car part when all the bolts come out and it is not a rusty turd with hidden secrets.

Maybe more involved than you intend, but the top of the cowl should be body color [white]. If it was rattle-canned black, may be easy to remove.

The cowl will be coming off so I can make that change, thanks.

You can fix the cowl air cleaner seal, by gently using wide painters tape and roll the seal back to the outside, leave in sun for a while. Back of seal looks great, front has mis-shapened.

Great progress!
Coil bracket had bright plating; need correct PCV and hose. Dipstick and tube should be natural steel. LH wire separator bracket should be orange. Upper control arms were painted as an assembly [less ball joint] so washers should be black. Sway bar and brackets should be black. Cowl plenum should be orange.

Dan,
You are on the right track. If you want images of my Z-11 EC for comparison let me know and I will get them up.
Images are a time saver for sure.

Here is my NOR Z-11 HB 350/300. It is not 100% factory correct however it is perfect for a driver and just about any grass show you want to go to.
Hope this helps.

Another - while not a Z-11 perhaps the best example of what the plants turned out as far as detail evidence.

FWIW the above photo is of a 350 300 engine assembled in Tonawanda - engines assembled in Tonawanda in 1969 were painted with the exhaust manifolds - Flint engines were not.
So if there is a T on your assembly stamp the manifolds and the locks etc should have traces of paint.
In the wiper cowl well area like William stated should be Orange... because when you look through the wiper grille the color remains consistent, same reason Z28's had the wiper well painted stripe color.

Survivor example with over spray engine stop lift recall hold down- and patina.
Something neat about the Tonawanda sticker on the pass side valve cover, it has a clear overlay and is on the engine prior to painting, after which the overlay is peeled off and reveals the foil sticker, it leaves a little rough edge of paint...
