1970 Z28 floor restoration vs leave alone

My Z28 has excellent original floor pans but they are dirty and maybe have a very small amount of surface rust. Its an original Arizona car now in Ohio
I am pulling the sub frame and painting it and not sure what to do about the floors
How should i preserve them from rusting?
Shoud i clean / scuff them and paint?

I'd use diluted Simple Green to clean and put on a coating of PB Blaster that I get at Home Depot. It is a penetrating oil and I have used it to coat many chassis. You apply it with a rag or towel. I use it to clean heavy grease off chassis, also. Always start off with the most gentle method. Your car should clean up nice.

IMO, it all depends on what else has been restored and what you want for the car. If the car has already had major sections, (paint, interior, underhood) restored...and you're already set on pulling the subframe to paint, then it wouldn't hurt one bit to put some attention to the floorboards as well. All depends on if you're looking to preserve or restore the car. Also, think about what you want for the car and what'll make you happy. If you decide to jsut leave it alone, at least monitor the condition regularly to be sure it doesn't degrade further before taking action.

Is it an LA (Van Nuys) built car or a Norwood car? If an LA car, the underbody was originally black and much easier to blend in and look original than the red oxide Norwood cars. I don't see any red oxide in the photo. Like Steve said, it depends on what you want it to be. You may want to do a Google search on Jack Seymour 1970 Z28 as he had a low mileage 70Z that he did and extensive cleanup on without disassembly.

What does the subframe look like before you pull it out ?

Its a LA car and has most of the original paint (showing some checking and dings) and the interior is all original but the engine compartment inner fenders and part of the frame have been painted.
I want to drive and enjoy the car and what to make sure it does not rust. So leaning towards painting the floors when i paint the sub frame

Most of the paint is missing off the subframe
The original motor was rebuilt and someone touched up the engine bay
Is not a perfect detailed show car

Thanks for the links that's an outstanding camaro. Mines a nice driver and leaning toward painting floor the correct black when i pull the subframe as i am practicing social distancing the next few weeks.
