Have known about this car most all my life and a couple of years back got the chance to see & photograph it. Ryan Brutt was in the area and he & I visited the owner. He has owned it since 1972. The original owner only ever street drove the car on its' 30 day paper tag and then it was strictly a drag car from then on. If you make it out in the pic where you see the odometer is has 981 mile on it currently.

Bill Thomas owned a Jade Green version of this same car and he claimed he'd mop up the track when he went up against it. Wish I knew what happened to the 8mm movies he had of Nu-Be Dragstrip. I had them in my possession at one time but I was afraid to run them through my projector and gave them back to him. He has since passed away and his car got sold.

If i had this car i would detail and clean from head to toe. Wash, buff and tuneup. Leave it original as found.

Owner states the engine was pretty healthy and 5.38 in the rear. It was 1/8 mile racing.

Me. Too. What an honor to be able to get this piece of history back on the road. I've driven several 390 cars, but just one CJ Torino (not an SCJ). They're the real deal. As much as I'm a GM guy at heart, I'd be damn proud to have a 428 CJ anything in my garage.

Well said Jeff. Chevy guy here all the way but those Torino's were nice cars like this 390 ci and like you mentioned the 428CJ powerhouse. I personally like the short slope rear window Torino's over this long rear window. Yes leave this car the way it is and clean like no tomorrow. I love car's now that are left alone if no rust holes are present. It just shows the originality of the vehicle.

In my book, survivors are king. I'm so sorry, too, I saw the Cobra emblem and thought this was a non ram air 428 CJ car. Like you said, still ridiculously potent with a 390. I really dig the formal roof cars as well, but man, I'm a sucker for a fastback.

390? I've only ever been told that this is a 428SCJ car. Enlighten me as to why it is a 390 car. Currently is 428 powered.

I was just referring to the previous message I was replying to that said "this 390". I took that as implying it was a 390 car, whereas my previous message talked about it being a 428 car. I thought I was being corrected, so I apologized. No disrespect meant.

Yup yup. Thank you sir again for working out the details. This was going to be in a Ford Magazine, and kept getting pushed back until the Magazine now folded. I still have a few plans in the works though.
