1969 Coronet DASH????

I started a post in the general forum about the 68/69 B-bodys being the being the best ALL AROUND car for size, comfort, performance, trunk space and ride/performance. I 'm leaning towards a 1968 GTX convertible as I had a good clone one back in high school as my first car. I also like the 69 Coronets, Super Bee/RTs. Been looking on-line as some as I like to research the interiors too.

Questions:

I have noticed some '69 Coronet Rt's have the same dash and gauges as '69 Plymouth RoadRunner/GTX's??? And not the traditional round gauges the Dodges I see usually have?

I always thought that the Plymouth's of those years got the long square speedo gauges and the Dodge's got the round gauges? As the Plymouth seem to have the round gauges in 1970 remodel.

The dash you are talking about is the Charger dash. The Super Bee had it, but it was optional on the R/T.

You are referring to the Ralleye Gauges and there were several versions of them over the years in the B-Body line up. In 1968 they have vertical ridges and are Dodge only. These were were standard on the Chargers and therefore sometimes nicknames the “Charger Dash”. Coronet R/T had optional Ralleye Gauges.
Mid-year Super Bee introduction also has them as being a standard item. Remember, the Super Bee is based off the Coronet, So Coronet R/T - Optional....Super Bee - Standard.

1969 Ralleye Gauges have pebble grain sometimes called the “Camera Case finish. This was wood grain on Charger SE & R/T SE. Once again, the Coronet R/T had the gauges optional while the Bee had them standard.

1970 Ralleye Gauges have pebble grain and are standard issue in Road Runner and the Charger and Charger 500. The Woodgrain Ralleye Gauges are standard in GTX, Charger SE, Charger R/T & R/T SE, and Super Bee, but once again, optional in Coronet R/T.

Yes it does Dave, THANK YOU. I recall 20+ yrs ago seeing a Coronet RT with the standard long say RoadRunner dash. Always thought it was a clone made from a RoadRunner.

Now I know differently.

That's really the only reason I prefer the Super Bee to the Road Runner - round gauges in the Dodge. I hate those horizontal elongated speedos. Dodge was next step-up from Plymouth in the Mopar trim line, kind of like Pontiac was a step up from Chevrolet.

Yes that was my thoughts too. Dodge just a step UP from Plymouth. This why I brought this up. Supply of say a certain car and year is limited if at all even available. I was looking at '68 GTX convertibles, but also going to look at the '69 Coronet RT's. I like the 440's and YES that pinched nose/grill/hood look is pretty mean. Add the functional Ram Air and the side vents!!!! Another big advantage in the rear wheel wells of the Coronet line.

As long as you stay away from the '70 - Blech. I actually prefer the '68-'69 Plymouth and Dodge B Body line myself because if you compare it to the 1970 Dodge there is less rear overhang...I know it's a bit of a trick of the eye but it really does look like they added another foot of length to the quarter panel of the '70 model over the '69 Coronet.

Tracker, I have never noticed the trunk extension till you posted that picture. I do prefer the 68/69 B bodys to the 70 or even the 66/67s. That is my personal preference and opinion that some may or may not agree with.

I had a really nice 68 GTX RAG clone back in '83 for a few years as my first car when I was 16 in high school. It was built with parts from a '68 GTX that was crashed so all the parts went into my clone. Liked it a lot and thought it was great. Looking to get another actually. I prefer the look of the '68 with the lower body strip over the '69's 2 tone paint. But also would consider the "right" '69 Coronet RT. It would have to have the dual scoop ram air hood and factory AC. This is what got me looking and noticing the dash differences that I never knew till now. THANKS TO THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR INPUT.

There has been a beautiful '68 GTX local farmer has that is to me. The guys father bought it new and the son has owned it since the '80's. 440 auto consol car, red with black stripes, vinyl roof and interior. Magnum 500's. It has had some bolt-ons over the years and can smoke the 15 X 8's at will. Mild rack nose-down car just looks mean.

Yes, the 70 Coronet/Super Bee is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it proposition. Much less attractive than the 69 models IMO. The stance of that maroon GTX that Tracker1 posted above is really nice!
