What do you guys like best for cleaning whitewalls? I just dropped the freshened engine back in my Dad's '53 BelAir and have a few things to do before I deliver it to him. (he's on his way back to Indiana from winter in the south, so the race is on! )

Tires yellowed from a couple years of sitting around.

Thanks,

Bill

I've had good luck with Bleche Wite as well. Like any other cleaner be careful not to apply in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces as it will stain - especially on aluminum wheels/trim. I've also used SOS pads for really stubborn stains too.

Looks like a beautiful 53!

Thank guys, I'll give that stuff a try. It's been awhile since I did whitewalls. The '53 is a twin to the car dad had when he was dating, then marrying my mom, so it's quite the nostalgia trip for them. He's 87 now and still loves his cars. (He just ordered a C8 Z51 Vette too LOL)

X3 on the Bleche Wite. That's all I've ever used on white letter tires too.

That is awesome! We should all be so lucky to be 87 and still enjoying cars!!

I can only hope my kids want to help me with "trivial" things if I get that old. You are a good Son.

Either Wesley's Bleche white or good old Comet cleanser.

Picked up last night;
1. Bleche Wite
2. SOS Pads
3. Mr Clean Magic Eraser

So I should be in great shape for a little comparison testing. Thanks for all the input.

Lacquer thinner works also.

My uncle in the late 50’s used sos pads for the whitewalls and that large bar of ivory soap to wash his white top convertible. Somethings are still good to use today.

Brillo pad. That’s all I use. Griots garage makes a rubber cleaner I use after the Brillo, and it comes with a nice pad holder.

I always used comet powder on a wet tire using a nylon scrub brush. Great for white walls and white letters. Cleans the black part of the tire real well too. Of course works better when you can lay the tire flat on the ground.

Happy Mom and Dad set for first drive in the BelAir. They sold their original one in 1959 right before I was born. I was probably the reason but they won’t admit it. So redeemed. ;)

Thanks for all the tire cleaning tips gents.

Flipping the blackside out is the fastest way. Lol I had white letters on the back, then flopped them, talking about cleaning. Lol. Brillo and Griots Garage cleaner was the ticket.

The Black Magic Bleche-Wite is the most effective product I've tried. I use this stuff also on my nitto tires (https://4wheelonline.com/Nitto-Off_Road_Mud_Tires.25) with white lettering. Just spray it on, let it dwell for a minute and then wife off. If the whites are too filthy, I use a brush.
