That’s a tough threat to make good on in the short term, considering he has no other North American manufacturing location.

With the rapid expansion of Space X centered in Texas, the regulatory and cost comparisons for conducting business are ripe for evaluation.

When the production savings of the move exceed the cost of continuing to operate in California I think it will be a done deal.

I don’t disagree in the long term, but the model 3/Y volume expectations will mean CA production will continue for at least a few more years.

Looks like Musk won his right to operate his company. Tesla is open, and the county has provided its blessing to do so.

Yep. LA County is already talking about extending the stay at home through July. Crazy.

And while I don't care about electric cars or what he does with his company in California, I can't say I blame him for taking a stand. The whole thing was on the news here a couple days ago, he was opening up production regardless of what CA says. Good for him, that's his freedom of choice. Other people can decide for themselves if they want to stay at home or not.

If the economy doesn’t open up the societal/economic cost is going to be much greater than the disease.

I have lost close family to cancer, heart disease and depression . There is no way to put a price on that. But I do believe the reasons for their deaths while tragic should not be the impetus for more deaths . The Fremont plant employees lots of people who could reach a greater demise if they and many other business don’t get going. Delta announced they may have to lay off half of their pilots and the list goes on.

I am very, very sorry for any loss of life as it's truly tragic. Unfortunately, in spite of these losses, we need to get the economy back in operation or there will be even greater repercussions the longer we wait. For those who are in the higher risk categories, I absolutely believe that they need to either stay in or if they have to go out, take the proper precautions, but we don't want this to be a situation where the cure is worse than the virus. Prayers for those lost.

I have lost friends and loved ones to motor vehicle accidents. I am not fighting to ban automobiles and go back to horse and buggy.

We have to look at the big picture. Like Elon Musk said recently: People think the American Economy is one giant horn o plenty. If you have a lot of stuff it means you managed to grab a bigger share from the horn o plenty. But the truth is this: if we aren't making stuff, there is no stuff to grab. (paraphrase).

If the whole economic system fails (and it will if this is taken to the extreme) there will be nothing to eat, nothing to sell, etc. How many lives will be lost as a result.

I am so sorry for anyone losing a loved one. Loss of life happens. I am not saying we should be reckless and take no precautions. We need a balance. We need to get back to work.
