Original Paint '66 Corvette 427 Coupe

Great combo in Milano Maroon over Saddle. There are some obvious localized issues with the original paint, but it still looks very presentable.

This Corvette usually gets bid up to the mid forties, doesn’t meet reserve, and has been relisted many times. As you mentioned Tony, it has some noticeable local issues like the localized fibreglass repairs and the key scratches to the door. Overall, I would still be thrilled to drive this car. Driving a big block Corvette wearing mostly original paint in this stunning color combination would be fantastic! Given the paint issues (and the fresh paint under the hood, the addition of side exhaust, etc.) perhaps this car not truly a survivor, but why the lack of interest?

I find it odd that the gas tank has been replaced due to rust? The description also says that there is “surface rusting throughout the frame, however there is no body work and no frame damage (all original bonding strips are intact).” Looking at the underside photos, I don’t see anything too intimidating, although I’d want to have someone look at it in person. What do you Corvette guys think?

Is that surface rust or scale on the frame, or rust to be concerned about?

----Helmut,,,As regards the rusty gas tank. When you pop the lid and look at the gas cap there's a rubber cap around the filler neck. There's one hole in it that has a hose attached for drainage of any water that might get in. Every now and then one gets plugged up, then what ever water gets in there can reach the top and get in the tank and cause all kinds of problems! If the car sits for long periods the water will sit in one spot on the bottom in the lowest spot and eventually find it's way out. Hope this helps.....Bill S

From what I can see, the frame isn't fatal. I've had cars that have frames like that and working them with lubricant like PB Blaster over and over again can really overcome lots of that rust.

I agree with Tim, not fatal and totally workable.
With rust like this I use the spray rust preventative that you get a NAPA and other parts stores that encapsulate the rust and leave it in a black type of dyed state. Does not look like someone has been under the car with a rattle can but better and more importantly it encapsulates the rust you see.

Maybe if it was in a sealed garage... Nothing about that frame etc. looks like it's been subjected to salt IMO. Cement floor moisture maybe.
