Seller does not understand that "rare" does not always equal "desirable".

This is a quote from the ad that makes no sense to me.

"I had the transmission professionally rebuilt at a total cost of $3,000 in labor and extremely rare NOS Torque Drive parts...it drives and shifts like a dream and easily keeps up with modern-day traffic (the only major thing that was not rebuilt during the restoration was the rare transmission... they couldn't find the correct parts)."

Current owner is the one who had the trans rebuilt ($3K?? Really??). Previous owner(s) is/are the one(s) who had the car restored but they did not 'restore' (i.e. rebuild) the trans because they couldn't find parts for it.

The owner of the car is Alex Manz the former president of the Mid Ohio Camaro Club. The story is 100% true. The car was restored with a glide because the people doing the restoration could not find parts. for the TD.

Alex stepped up and did the heavy lifting to fix the original transmission. Yes $3000 was the cost.

There is a devastating personal back story to the reasons for the sale that I would not wish on any member of this board, so why not just take a breath before you guys bash the car or debate if you think it is desirable or rare?

I currently work in the old Heffner Chevrolet building at 500 E. State Blvd. The building is falling down around us but always cool to see an old Heffner car show up. Every so often someone will come in that worked there back in the muscle car days. They almost always have a story or to two to tell about the good old days. Some of the more interesting were a LS6 engine being liberated from the car while parked behind the building over a weekend. A 427 found it's way into a '69 Z28, warranty engines not always making it back to GM and lots of "government work" going on in the service dept. How much is true, I have no idea but the stories are always interesting.

Looks like a nice little car,When I read an add like that I always figure its an error or typo and I give the owner the benefit of the doubt. I can see that cost of the trans those parts are hard to find. I'm sure he was trying to preserve the car the best that was possible.

I didn't see any posts bashing the car. All I said was that rare (and it certainly is rare) does not always equal desirable. That is true not only for this car but for lots of cars out there. Most of us have gotten upside down on a car that was unique; special to us, but not necessarily that valuable. Just ask almost any one who preserved and restored a flat head six Studebaker. There just isn't much return on investment.

I wish him luck with the sale. Maybe someone will step up and find it as valuable as he does. Whatever the back story is, I also wish him the best posssible outcome.

I see from completed auctions that he got $20,200 for his four door 74 Nova police car. That is more than I would have expected. It is just as possible he gets what he wants for the Camaro. It is a nice looking car and has a lot going for it.

"Surprised no bids yet with 10 (now down to five) hours left."

As Lynn noted above, "rare" does not necessarily mean "desirable". Regardless of how nice it may be, $30K is a lot of money for a 6 cyl (semi)automatic 69 Camaro.
