I am going to be restoring the above car, and would like to make sure I tell the painter the correct process to paint the car. Were the underside of the floors a gray primer then the body color overspray shows up on the underside when the rockers are painted? I believe each plats process is different.
What is the correct color of black for under the hood including the cowl area and up to the front windshield.
There is still original spatter in the trunk and the original quarters are still on the car so I will document how they look. Although they will be replaced.

Thanks for the help.

Lawrence

I have a high-option Framingham 69 Malibu, but it has been worked over a few times during its existence. The firewall was originally a satin black. My car was undercoated early on, so overspray details can't be seen.

My car along with several other Framingham cars have had the paint color and interior trim code grease penciled on the firewall, behind the brake booster. I'll be curious if your car has the same. I also found a 1/3 build sheet under the back seat bottom and the same in the driver's seat back. A full build sheet was found on top of the gas tank.

I know of a low mile unrestored 69 Chevelle L78 from the same factory, but the owner is all but impossible to contact. I do have some pix of that car somewhere that may show some of the details you ask about. That will take some digging.

My Malibu was sold new at Bay Chevrolet on Long Island, and the L78 car I know of was sold new at Livermore Chevrolet in Albany.

My VIN is 7633, and the build date on the trim tag is 05A. The original engine block assembly stamp is 0428.
