This has a 9n535xxx vin stamp down by the oil filter. I thought early cars were on the deck. The casting date is I278. What do you think about the stamp

Real early LA cars had the VIN by the filter. What plant was it Nor or LA?

Like already mentioned, I like the stamp.

Getting back to your other question, it's often been said, and written in books, that the earliest Norwood started stamping vins on the oil filter pad was at the turn of the new year, while Van Nuys started sooner if I remember correctly.

I've since seen several, including my own Norwood December 68 build, with Mid December build dates stamped on the pad, with the vin at the oil filter. These have all been vins in the 560's from Norwood. Earlier than some books reported.

With that said, yours is the earliest I've seen with a late October 68 build date with that 535 vin. I don't have an answer for you, but it's interesting as more of these data points come to light.

I would be incredulous about the stamp being down at filter except for the fact that I have a friend who has a Z from the same time frame and his car has the partial vin by the filter. He’s owned the car since ‘72 We are an hour from Norwood, so, yes, a Norwood car.

I just checked my database and I have several NOR cars built in that time frame which had the VIN stamped by oil filter. I was adding this and found 7 others in that time frame.
