1963 Olds Jetfire

I've been trying to somehow figurre out the current value of my car for insurance purposes. Little to go by.

All original, full matching numbers, Jetfire that has been honestly restored to factory original specifications.

I believe there are only a dozen or so left in the US that are original spec and in running condition/

----Had one back about 1978-9 with 2300 original miles. It was a really cool distinctive ride. Sold it at auction back in that era for around $10,000 and thought I hit the lottery, but the mileage sold it. Yours looks really nice, and in todays world I would call it a $30,000/$35,000 ride. Eyeball will really help and I would tell you to put the correct repro white-walls on before listing it. There's every possibility it could bring more! Mine was auto like yours. We probably both wish they were 4-speeds, but yours really does stand out. Congrats on a really nice resto. I just noticed the moosemilk bottle in its resting place,,,,Cool!.....Bill S

----Thanks, Tom! The 1st car you listed has the 4-speed bump. It's sort of like a 69 GP SJ with a 4-speed. For equal cars about a $10,000 to $15,000 bump. I know this as I have an SJ auto (of course).......Bill S

My car is the one for sale at Celebrity Cars of Las Vegas. I've kept it insured for the last several years at $55,000. It looks like I can reduce that to a safe, "Stated Value" of $35,000 based on the opinions expressed herein. Many thanks for the inputs!

Personally, I would rethink that. When I value one of my cars for insurance purposes, it isn't necessarily what I could sell if for this week. After all, it isn't for sale. Well, I guess everything is "for sale" just not "on sale". The question I always come around to is: "what would I have to pay to replace it with something truly comparable?"

I love my low mileage 69 Z. It has very few mods from stock, but it isn't a survivor. Because I am not a pro, it is technically an amateur restoration; even if some of the work is better than a pro would have done. If I put it on ebay or BAT with no reserve, I honestly would not expect to get more than 60k for it. Could I replace it for that? No way. I have it insured for $75k, and frankly, I am not sure I could replace if for that.

Your car is sweet, even if it does not appeal to as broad an audience as a 69 Z. If you lost it, you MIGHT be able to replace if for $35k, but I bet it would take a couple years and a lot of your time and $$$$ to get it as nice as yours.

Besides, classic car insurance is pretty cheap. Double check the diff in premiums.

I would hate to see you crying in your beer because it was stolen and under insured.

Just my two cents. And you probably got exactly what you paid for this opinion.

Many Thanks Lynn! You were 100% spot-on correct.

The total additional cost to keep the car insured at $55,0000, stated value, was less than $30.00 annually versus having it insured at $35k!

I appreciate the input and now can only hope that it eventually sells and goes to a new home!
