----At 1st glance it doesn't seem to be an engine fire, but pointing towards the interior. Wonder if it was fuel or electrical. Sad in any event!......Bill S

Very Sad....Glad no one got hurt.

This is the exact reason I always replace 50 yr old under dash wiring harness....all it takes is yet another amateur stereo installer and the sparks begin. Most all Muscle Car under dash wires have been spliced into within the last 50 years.

Back in my Camaro Parts Exchange days, we bought the remains of a '69 Camaro SS-RS. Same deal, interior fire. The gal that owned it said she put the fan on, started burning. Still had original am radio, no hang-on tape.

Ugh!!

That could have been me 30 years ago in my Chevelle. Odd thing happened, the cig lighter had somehow jiggled to a point it was engaged and wouldn't come out. Bumpy roads I guess. It kept getting hotter and hotter and I smelled something burning.
Looking around I saw smoke as it was melting the plastic around the lighter, I grabbed the handle and the plastic knob had already melted and simply came off in my hand, leaving the metal portion still in the dash, and melting the plastic around it. I was able to pull over quick enough grab some pliers out of the trunk and yank it out.

Ever since then I don't run a cig lighter in any of the cars. It stays in the glove box. LOL

To this day the cig lighter housing is still intact and working, as it cooled the plastic hardened and the housing stayed intact and functional. I leave it there as a reminder.

I stopped to look at a couple of camaro parts cars a few years ago and sitting beside them still strapped down on a car trailer was a burned out 2nd gen Nova. The owner said he threw his cigarette out his driver window and it went in the open window of the nova and started an interior fire.

Hopefully he doesn’t throw cigarettes out the window anymore.

What the hell are the cops doing just watching...don't they all carry extinguishers in their cars ???

I'd have been scooping dirt with my shoes to throw inside. I would NEVER just stand and watch that happen to one of mine. My efforts might well be fruitless, but to just stand and watch just isn't in my DNA.

I did have a factory LS5 car in the same color combo from '73-79, but the last time I saw it in the MPLS area was about 12 years ago and it was red !!

Could be he put an MSD box in the car and it caught fire. We've had a couple of those around here a few years ago.

I don't know, but it looks like an extinguisher was discharged at the front of the car, possibly under the hood since the pins are out. Lots of powdery dust and the paint on the hood seems pretty burnt. In fact, fella in the last pic has a red extinguisher in his hands.

Dream cruise a few years ago, I was at the Pontiac club lot, a guy in a Jegged up pick up had a nice removable hood, he goes to start that mess, it backfires and the carbs on fire, the guy went from putting his hand on it to his shirt, my chrome extinguisher was around $100, He didn’t buy one with all the Jeggs parts he bought. It soon became a big fire, finally a guy ran over to his fire ex and sprayed it, now his fire extinguisher needs to be charged. The guy didn’t offer him anything for the help. Other than under the bonnet was a mess, he drove away, if you don’t carry a Fire extinguisher, maybe seeing that Lic will make you get one. Have one in the garage too.
