Usually I'd just by a new one but my son wants to rebuild his Rochester 2GV carb. Car was sitting for a number of years. Wondering if anyone has used the berryman chem dip to clean and soak the carb to remove any crud and old gaskets from the carb. Thanks, Mark

Last can I bought was from NAPA, still works like the old stuff, very harsh. Will take off ink stamps and any coating down to the base metal.

I just bought the almost gallon can of Berryman Chem Dip from auto parts store.
I did my Holley 7B3 4053 with it. Not harsh at all. Dipped parts for about 15-20 minutes. Easily cleaned carbon etc. off with a small brush. Washes off with water.
Original plating still intact. Parts came out very nice. I removed the old gaskets first. I read where it does not remove the old gasket material but I did not try that. Before and After pics.

I think time is where the harshness comes in. I think most guys soak overnight. What did the instructions say to do? Making things clean externally and clearing passages can be two different things. You carb looks great by the way.

Thanks. Basically they say 30 minutes soak time. More for extreme crud etc. They state that you can soak 4 hours to overnight but you will be at risk of removing plating etc.
This carb was nice to start with. All passages were checked before and after dip. I had a nice correct baseplate (also cleaned with the Chem Dip) to go with it not shown in the before pic.
I was very surprised at how well the Berryman worked. No smell and it didn't burn my skin.

Thanks guys. The outside of the carb is not bad at all. I'm just worried about what I'll find inside when I open it up. Had car running the other days but that was from pouring gas in manually. Wouldn't run by its self and carb leaking fuel around a few gaskets. No gas pumping out when stepped on throttle. Fuel pump is pumping and has anew filter. Thanks again.
