Another one of my favorite muscle cars back in the day Rambler Scrambler, light, quick and a blast to drive. That 390 ci 315 horsepower motor could beat a lot of BB Fords, Chevy's, and Mopar's.Type: ohv V-8. Engine specs below, 425 torque lbs gets that car moving also.

Displacement, cid: 390

Fuel system: 1 x 4bbl.

Compression ratio: 10.2:1

Horsepower @ rpm: 315 @ 4600

Torque @ rpm: 425 @ 3200

Impressive, could you get that Cross Ram intake setup from the factory? That cross ram would really help the top end on the drag strip. These cars were a sleeper killer.

On the SC/Rambler - no. Dealer install. But it did come standard on the 1969 Hurst Super Stock AMX

Give me the Rambler Scrambler with cross ram any day over the AMX. Lighter car, quicker. Good info.

No so. The SS AMX weighs 3000 lbs. (curb weight) while the SC/Rambler weighs 3210 (also CW).

The SC/Rambler is rated at 315HP while the SS AMX is rated at 420HP.

Found Rambler Scrambler weighed in at 2994 vs 3074 for AMX. Both cars with 390- 315 horsepower engines ran 14.2 Scrambler vs 14.4 AMX. I am comparing the 390-315 horsepower motors here.

The Hurst SS AMX was designed to compete on the drag strip. Manual drum brakes, 12.4 compression ratio, 4.44 posi rear. And a sticker price of $5994 which is 2X the price of the SC/Rambler.

53 were made to compete in NHRA SS/D and SS/E. 11.43@127 mph.

The most famous racer to drive one was:

Beautiful drag car. Like the looks of these and the Rambler Scrambler also. AMC did well in Pro Stock for a bit with Booth-Arons performance from Mich.

The story goes that AMC executives loved the Hurst SC/Rambler but were a little concerned the wild hood graphics might be too over the top and hamper sales so a second paint scheme ("B") which was more sedate was developed. When it was all over (first available March 1969) 1,512 were made (the initial run was to be 500, then 1000 and finally 1500) of which 342 were the "B" paint scheme.

The Hurst SC/Rambler first made it's appearance at the NY Auto Show in 1969. The only difference between that car and the production cars were the wheels. Instead of the entire wheel being painted blue, as seen on this production car, the "spokes" of the wheel had a "brushed aluminum" appearance.

Quick cars. These Scramblers were light, fast and put away a lot of more powerful cars on the trailer.

Lee, what I have heard, that is not entirely true? I looked at a ScRambler years ago. A well know Canadian racer and guy who found a lot of odd and different cars had it.

Story I heeard was the car was a super stocker from day one and listed in some super stock paper/deal or registry as being FACTORY with the crossram? I was told that this certain ScRambler came just like the crossrammed Z28's, with the stuf in the trunk. Don said they had the documantation that this certain car got a full sjperstock package.....

I see some Z28 claiming factory crossrams even though they came in the trunk, just like AMC seem to offer at least one guy.

The crossram set up for a Z/28 was never supplied in the trunk. It was never an option. It was purchased over the parts counter from the off road catalog....Joe

The Edelbrock crossram was only available as a dealer sold/install under the Group 19 high performance parts catalog. The factory had nothing to do with it.

How they got around this on the SS AMX was to have Hurst do all the installations. Hurst never built a SS SC/Rambler.
