Pardon my ignorance, but what does '04L' on the TT indicate?

William

04L was probably an error. Instead of incrementing to 05A, for a shift or so all tags were punched 04L. They were mixed with 05A tags in the VIN range N636xxx-N638xxx.

This was posted on FB a few days ago & I sent a message to Mike asking for the the 2nd page of Jerry's report along with pics of the trim tag, deck stamp, trans stamp & rear stamp & he responded he would get back to me, I have not heard from him since.

To clarify the Facebook situation, the car was posted on Facebook by my business partner. Unfortunately, Facebook claimed that we violated some mysterious term or condition and pulled the car and all communications from the site. I would be happy to speak to anyone on the phone who has interest to help explain the situation.

Mike,
Can you go ahead and post all the pictures and info requested by 69L78 on this site please, including ALL pages of Jerry's report. This is a nice car, and I am sure others would like to see that info... Danny

Agreed,

Please post your pictures showing the pad stamp, VIN #, transmission stamping, and rear-end dates. In addition to page 2 of the report, it would also be nice to see the dates and stamps on the engine peripherals such as the alternator, carburetor, brake master & booster.

Here is a picture of the trim tag. I believe it was part of the original post, but in case it was not, please see below.

I am also including pages 2-8 of MacNeish report.

I will follow up with additional pictures as requested, but my wife had a possible COVID exposure and we are currently quarantining. I am happy to answer any other questions either on here or by phone 610-322-5769.

Good of you to post the report and it appears you have corrected many of the little things. I agree with the engine being too far apart. In fact, that block is perfect for my 02D car built in February. Correct YH wheels would help the cause and help with its value and integrity.

Nice car. GLWS

69L78 and dannystarr are simply trying to be helpful....please post as requested ....potential buyers would benefit from seeing Jerry's list of nonconforming findings....provides data for estimating additional dollar outlay following purchase....Nice ride!

I think that Jerry's reasoning on the block isn't very solid...

Can you elaborate on this comment?

My opinion is that it's an outlier based on cars build in that time period and engine assembly date, as stated in the report, as well as no visibly detectible VIN. To conclude it's original based on those factors, well it's a stretch. For me it's inconclusive as "born with". Now if others are found, then it would be a more convincing conclusion.

Exactly.
Additionally, the last two known Feb engines in a Z28 are 5 weeks and 7 weeks earlier. Yes, it was not a first-in first-out system, but they were using up all the engines coming in in that period.

As someone who has looked for an original/born with / numbers matching Z for sometime, I always find these discussions interesting and helpful because I am an enthusiast not an expert.

It always brings me to question of the various values attached to carS based on Matching/date code correct etc.? So I kind of given up and went in a different direction in terms of my vehicle purchases.
I am grateful for the insights I get from reading these threads.

This really is a beautiful car and I appreciate the transparency with the info.. I know someone will be happy with it!

----I think you could do worse than this nice Z at this price point or maybe a bit less if you are a good negotiator. Good all around car with a great unusually beautiful color......Bill S

Mike, any chance of getting a better picture of the trans stamp? How about a picture of the actual axle stamp on the tube?

"I think you could do worse than this nice Z at this price point or maybe a bit less if you are a good negotiator"

Yes, but it is always better to know what you are buying before the purchase.
