View Full Version : My new Day 2 Project 1969 Camaro

Yes this is the car Charlie had for sale right here. It has been dropped off at my friends body shop to be painted in Cortez silver. I have been collecting parts for years for this project

It will be getting a SBC, because I need to use my NOS Chrome Hooker headers and side pipes. I also have a Chrome Lakewood 3 point roll bar. Hurst Ram Rod shifter, and off course real Lakewood tractions bars. The square ones. It will probably be a while before the paint work starts but I wanted the beginning pictures.

You really caught my attention when you mentioned you were going with SIDE PIPES. I like how you're thinking... and I'm glad to see you're going back to Cortez Silver.
Have you considered adding a day-two scheme to your paint? ;-]

Looking forward to following your build!

My plans are to paint the car back to the original Cortez silver with black interior and keep it cool with period early 1970's parts. Lace paint? maybe graphics? maybe
Ryan as hard as it is to believe, I do not have an NOS Ram Rod. (LOL)

I will send the suspension and sub-frame out for powder coat.
There will be no pro-touring parts on this car, old school bias ply tires.

Scored some more parts for the Camaro over the weekend.
A beautiful set of 186 heads. My friend had them under his bench for over 30 years I didn't even know he had them.
This L88 hood is a bolt on, lightweight, not sure if I am going to use this or not yet.

Still just gathering parts, car still not even in the body shop yet.

Love this car and project but seriously think it’s needs an amazing lace or candy paint job And that silver is a spectacular base for just such paint

Man o man...

If that car wasn't going to be bad enough with all that vintage jewellery on it, the bar just got raised to a whole other level. Loving it Dan!!!

HELP!!! I just got my new grill and headlight bezels, the grill is black with a chrome trim.
The question is do I paint the outside of the chrome body color and also do I paint the bezels body color? I have seen so many different ways of doing this.
Thanks in advance Dan

This is how it looks.

grill surround should be body color. Headlight bezels should be argent. Grill grate should be black for SS, argent for others (generally).

Standard headlamp bezels should match the grille.

I offended wondered what happened to the car OJs leaning on.

William
05-25-2024, 02:17 AM
Facts of the matter suggest the car was no more than a convenient prop for the photos. OJ probably had no involvement with it other than the photos.

The car has the 1st design D90 stripe meaning it was built no later than the second week of November, 1968. The California XRK 691 tag was issued in 1968 and indicates the car was privately owned. Cars that were in Chevrolet company use had MFG 015 tags.

John De Lorean was the General Manager of Pontiac until being named Chevrolet General Manager February 1, 1969. That means the photos were taken some time after that, possibly March-April 1969.

Where is the OJ Camaro today? Probably lost in time.

If you every make it down to the Chicagoland area I would love to show you all the cars and parts!! I know it is too far for a trip but if you ever make it down here you are always welcome! I bought the 1985 Monte from a member right here. Sold new in Union Grove WI never restored, I bought it with 20,000 miles on the clock. Still has mostly original hoses.

I really want one of those hoods for my car, but I want one that bolts to the hinges. i want to put one of my tunnel rams on mine, but I need a hood like that to go on it.

definitely put the hood on, a touch of lace and flake and a name on the side of it to add that 1980s feel

Hello everyone,

Have to chime in here and tell you all that my son and I dropped into Illinois on the September long weekend, and we finally got to meet up with Dan Reimer. Not only was he a great host and a blast to hang out with, but after swapping stories and meeting some of his buddies at a local car show, we made our way over to the Day 2 Garage and toured the shop with Dan.

A truly great collection of muscle cars, day 2 street machines, and vintage speed parts. Thanks for the great time Dan. You're a great host, and a super cool guy to hang with. Loved our visit and it was great meeting your buds too!

Definitely liking the hood Dan. It's gonna look stout on this car!

I was also looking back in the thread and noticed that I broke the video link for the tour we shot when down to visit you recently. I reset the video on my old YouTube profile so here's the link for anyone who'd like to see Dan's 69 Camaro in the Day 2 Speed Shop.
