View Full Version : New Scam. Not sure of the end game

Received a package containing something I did not order.

The return address on the package is a LEGIT Amazon warehouse. Of course, I can send something and put any address I want as the return address.

They went to the trouble and expense of sending UPS overnight. I checked the tracking number and UPS verified it was delivered this morning.

Package shows that it was billed to PP, which I assume is paypal. I checked, and there is no unauthorized payment in my paypal account. Also strange that the package was addressed to me instead of Sherri. She is primary on that account, and everything we get from Amazon is addressed to her.

Did a Google search, and apparently it is pretty common.

There are two theories:

1. They already have my name and shipping address. For all I know, they also have my email address. They use that info to write glowing reviews so that others will purchase the product.

2. They are hoping you request a return label. Not sure how this would work; but maybe they are hoping to get more information from you when doing the return.

I am keeping the packaging and the unopened item. It is pullover neck warmer that can be used as a mask.

I doubt it was a coincidence that Sherri received a phone call last week from someone with a thick East Indian accent claiming to be from Amazon. Said he needed to verify her last four purchases on Amazon. She refused to give any info over the phone. He said, "surely you know we are a very big company."

Tis the season to scam people...
I got an email yesterday about someone in India leaving me a HUGE sum of money and all I had to do was reply via THEIR email address. Yeah, that one went right into the delete file. I can't believe they are coming around with that worn out crap again.
All y'all be careful what you reply to on the big 'ole www.

Be careful with that "gift" Lynn. Hopefully it wasn't infected...

We left it in the packaging. Don't plan to take it out.

Think I figured out the scam.

I bought a combo light / vent for my shop bathroom on ebay.

Got a message today saying it was delivered this morning at 8:57 the same time the mystery package was delivered.

Will post all the details tomorrow so everyone can avoid the seller, who has almost 7000 items listed.

Did you get the light/vent too, or just the bogus gator ?

Just the bogus gator.

Contacted the seller, and received this response.

"Sorry for that mistake
It's our fault
we will prepare a replacement and ship it to you ASAP
will be updating you within 48 hours and we Apologize for any Inconvenience
Thanks"

Will follow up.

Sounds like a simple shipping mistake? It sounds like your shop light may come overnight.

I hope you are right Jason. It's less than $40. Still, I hate to get scammed if that is what it is.

Lynn, there are all kinds of scams going on now.

Most recent is a text message you receive from a bank that looks legitimate indicating that your account was compromised and you need to click on the http link to verify your info. DON"T click on this link. These are all scams... Just delete the message..

Another great one is about a year ago I received a scam call from an Indian sounding male. He told me that my computer had a bad virus and he needed to clear it up. He was identifying himself as a representative from Microsoft. Ultimately what he was trying to do was remote access my computer to hack into it. Well I baited this idiot along and when he asked me if I was close to my computer I told him I was. He advised me to turn it on. I waited a minute then replied "Oh no I can't even power on the computer, you were right it's broken". The caller then dropped several "F" bombs at me and hung up. I nearly pissed myself laughing so hard.......

You get scammed on Amazon, they will refund your money. I've never had a loss from there. They replace or refund WAY better than trying to deal with ebay and pay pal, all they do is protect their sellers and their income from them.

The purchase is not from Amazon. It was an ebay purchase. The return address on the shipping label is an Amazon address.

Filed a request with Ebay and received a full refund.

Sorry; forgot to follow up. I really may have been just a mistaken shipment. I was surprised when I looked at the feedback that several others had received the same merchandise instead of what they ordered.

Good deal you got your money back to go buy something local and tangible.
