Nice car! I would be careful on these and do your do diligence, IMO. Many of these are re-made, rarer than a COPO.
Who is selling the car, looks like 427 King's place.

Owner history and careful scrutiny of the engine and trans stampings would be on the top of my list. Documents can be faked especially when your talking about 250 Large for a car.
I would like to see the docs and stampings.

A member her was instrumental in finding this ad from Jan 70 from Queen City Chevrolet. One of the stock #s says Lemans blue, aluminum head, cowl induction, chambered exhaust. The original owner told me he got pulled over on the KY border for illegal exhaust and I assumed thats what he meant . Now thats been documented as well with the ad. He also stated he got it for a hs graduation present and it was so expensive it had been left over, hence the ad for it almost a year from its build date. He stated there was a zl1 and he had his choice and took the L89 because of the color . No need to look any further, its 100 legit.I do my due diligence before I buy anything , not after. Car also has original POP and title in mothers name who had to be on the title since her son was underage . Great car !! Anyone that is interested can pay an outsider several thousand to give you their thoughts , or pay me the same few thousand and ill put in writing ill give you your money back and 50K for your trouble if its not authentic. He's got a yellow one I used to own as well if someone wants a different color. Benny you should know better than to post the due diligence stuff, youve seen the cars ive had for 35 years, please.

Car is 8th listed from bottom, I dont have the original copy with me and when enlarged it is illegible. Yes Kurt, the original owner told me he had the window sticker and/or invoice, along with the parts he took off the car . After his son found out online the car was really rare, he told the father to stop talking to me about the car and that was the end of discussions.
I would trust and have trusted Chuck's word more then the other person mentioned in this thread.

Since the COPO article on the the CRG site, I have heard from a few people wondering why the Queen City ZL1 wasn't listed. Not listed because there is no hard evidence they had one. Queen City was less than 10 miles from the Norwood plant. The returned cars sat there for months yet they were not on the re-distribution list for returned cars. Possible they could have acquired one later on via dealer trade, but odd they never advertised it anywhere.
Always open to new ZL1 history.

The original owner of the l89 said there was a zl1 on the lot when his mother bought him the camaro...he had his choice and chose the l89, he said it was due to color and he didnt want to make his mother spend that much more, not too many 17 yr old kids would have done that . It was Jan 70 so maybe it was another dealers car,no idea. But they had one . My recollection it was green or white. I didnt pay much attention to that detail. It could have been a non original car w a dealer zl1 I suppose as well..I'll try and see if time healed his pain of selling the car and will ask him if he answers the phone .

... THE ONLY OTHER CAR WITH ALUMINUM HEADS AND COWL INDUCTION IS THE ZL1 !! ...
FYI the two ‘69 “actual” Pacecars were also built as L89s with cowl induction.

i can assure any doubters chucks L-89 is 1000% real. Queen city sold at least 2 L- 89 camaros As for the queen city ZL-1 i can assure everyone one it was on the showroom for at least 6 months . Verified by my interviews with living queen city employees. Thats the most info i will let out on the ZL-1.

I mean L89 cowl is the only other top end like the zl1, not to mean just this particular l89 cowl car

I have probably heard from all of them. One insisted it was an RS, not possible.
Is what you may know a State secret? Don't understand the paranoia. For decades, the SAAC has distributed info [VIN, selling dealer, ownership history] on multi-million dollar cars with no complaints. I can guarantee you all ZL1 Camaro VINs have been run through NCIC many times.

Here's a couple 05/69 Queen City ads I had posted previously in other threads, note Stock #1263 for the L89 RS.
I expect the ad fsc66 posted w/ 427 Demo is part of the same 01/70 ad 68GTO posted in another thread w/ L89 thought to be Chuck's, this ad included again as further below.
Note the LB car in the 01/70 ad is also Stock # 1263 so if the same car, what's the Build date of Chuck's car?:hmmm:
To clarify, I'm not questioning whether Chuck's car is genuine as I'm totally a believer in that but just jiving all info to confirm details.

L89 built Feb 69.....First Queen City ad shows May 69 date, second ad shows Jan 70 date on newspaper. In service date on car paperwork shows 4/70. Car sticker for around 4800.00 and was a hard sell, the dealer told the orig owner it was no radio car and they put a radio in it because noone wanted to spend 5K and not even have a radio. Picture of the car the day he brought it home shows an antenna in the pic. great history. whatever zl1 that was on the floor the day he bought this carpet sat around too because of price I assume. Pete, nice info. How about that wire wheel demo RS copo...

And, we celebrate its Dec 16, 1968 delivery in a few days! Thank you BWAG for your care before mine. It still looks pretty with 2089 miles on her!
That DEMO Camaro Coupe with the 427, turbo-hydromatic, PS, PB, Rally Sport, vinyl roof and wire wheels looks interesting. Anyone know anything about it? Has it been found?

The ZL1 that was supposedly at Queen City was Green. There are 12 green ZL1's. If I had a time I would dig into it but I don't really care, sure somebody can figure it out just by the process of elimination.

Actually 13.
Of them, only #65 has an Ohio connection. Ordered and sold by Lavery Chev, Alliance OH.
Two of the 10 FG Gibb cars, #36 [4-speed] and #45 [auto] are among the group that did not have a dealer re-assignment. Cars unsold as of May '69 were returned to Norwood and eventually re-invoiced to other dealers. It has been long presumed that Gibb returned 37 cars. If one of these two was returned, then that story changes.
It has been stated that QC had the ZL1 for at least 6 months. A Gibb ZL1 would have had a dealer invoice of around $5800, far more than any other Camaro in their inventory. They would have had significant interest in moving it and would have run newspaper ads for it ala Huebner. To date, no QC ad for a ZL1 Camaro has turned up.

There were typos in those ads for sure, and that dealer added options on cars maybe the 427 w wire wheel covers wasn't a iron motor 427 which everyone assumes because it doesn't say zl1 in the ad .

....break in the engine, changed out the tires then it snowed. They yank the L89 for a 427! Oh my. BWAG tells me it laid on the parts room floor for months and parts were scavenged as needed. He said the alum. heads were problematic...

I knew a guy that had a ZL1 that ran at Edgewater but I can't remember his name off hand. I think he traded it for another 69..It probably came from OC.

IN 1969 the ZL-1 was offered to mr ys-702. Either gabbard or ryan referred to the camaro as the ALL ALUMINUM JOB. Multiple gm employees tried to use their 25% discount to try to buy it . Nothing doing with that

I have to say, I have seen some L89s with non cowl hoods, this is a first for me to see one on an L89. Always thought that was odd, you pay up for better heads, yet don't get the hood that forces the air down its throat. Maybe all these L89s came out before the hood was offered. Super cool car, great blue color + black interior + M22.

The ZL2 hood was part of the COPO 9560 & 9561 and mandatory option on Pace cars, but an option on Z28 & SS.
BTW the ZL2 hood is lighter than the SS hood.

The ZL2 hood first became available "after Dec 68"
http://www.camaros.org/pdf/options.pdf
The L89 option first became available Dec. 1967 (1968 model year) so between September 1968 and December 1968 any L89 Camaros would have a flat hood as the ZL2 option was not yet available.

SS Hood
I do not agree
I have seen the ZL2 Hood on the 12B -68 1969 Z/28 and they have old pictures of the car from the early 70's with the ZL2 Hood.
The hole for the ZL2 Wires can be located elsewhere on the Firewall and not just at the Fuse Block
But those are my opinions

The earliest known documented 1969 Camaros built with ZL2 are a Van Nuys Z/28 final-assembled December 27, 1968, and ZL-1 #1 final-assembled at Norwood December 30, 1968.
