Mecum Auctions announced today that they will be selling 200+ cars from the Rick Treworgy Muscle Car Museum Collection.
Whew...that's a lot of cars and Rick has some good ones in there!
Auction will be right after the Kissimmee Auction right at his museum. Yep...that is the converted Walmart!

When I see a collection sold off part of me regrets I never saw it, but at the same time, I am glad to see these cars back out in the wild.
Best of luck to the seller and Mecum. Lots of cars on the market lately.

I went thru the collection about 4 years ago. Some really neat cars and wide assortment. I found many to be modified from original, so not 100% accurate restorations, but cool resto-mods.

I just went through there last month. There are some really good cars in that collection - at least what was on display at the moment. Some, not perfect restorations, but very nice.

If I remember, aren't there about 300 cars in that building ? It doesn't seem like he is selling them all. Maybe keeping the best for himself.

Sounds about right. Had a Z16 up on a turntable, crossram 69 Z, Berger COPO, another copo, L88 Vette, ZL1 vette maybe among others. Nice stuff.

I was talking with one of the mechanics in the back room and I think he said Rick started out collecting Corvettes and had about 30 of those, when I was there. Sure looked like it from the line of them.
Thought I had a pic of the Corvette's but all I find is Chevelle's and Camaro's...

I've seen Rick's collection two separate times when I was visiting my sister. He has some nice cars, but most of them are driver quality with incorrect details. He didn't have that silver 69 Camaro when I was there. If the VIN is 124379N672561 it's not a Berger COPO. I saw that Camaro at Goodguys in Columbus back in 2006 and the owner said it was a clone. I then saw it at the Super Chevy Show in St. Louis in 2012 with the Berger emblems. All the Berger COPO's except 1 were 9737 cars which this car is not and all were February and May built cars while this is an August built car. The Orange COPO is 124379N644383 and is a very nice car. That one used to belong to David Whitfield.

Here are some photos of the orange COPO that I took when I was there in 2017. This car was sold new at Central Chevy - Olds in London ON. This car with a number of other cars in Rick's collection were featured in the coffee table book Art of the Muscle Car.
He moved his collection from the old Walmart to a much newer strip mall a few years ago.The collection is now displayed in what was once a large grocery store, remodeled and much nicer than the Walmart. In moving,he downsized his WALMART museum display from just over 300 cars to right around 200 in the Grocery store now.
A friend of mine last worked Rick's museum in early November as security guard. He says Rick still has a LOT of classic cars in a nearby facility too.He owns the strip mall so he does not see Rick closing the museum after this.
He said Rick just finished building a big ass home less than a mile from the museum. He also has a “pole barn” on his house property that houses at least 100 more cars.
This past summer he had a group wanting to buy ALL the cars on display at the museum,he felt their offer was too low so did not sell to them, and is going this route.

Well, I guess that takes all the speculation out.
Glad I was able to see this collection 4 years ago.
Anyone going to that area of FL needs to go to Don's Garlits Museum of Speed in Ocala before he gets too old. I have no idea if it will close too, but he is getting up there in age too and that museum is a must see for gear heads and 1320 fans. All drag race cars, but some very famous cars from the 60's-80's are in there, NOT just Don's.

Been to Garlits Museum twice... waaaayy back. On one of the visits he was tinkering on a fuel car and fired it up outside the shop !!! It was like a private show for about half a dozen guests. Fantastic memory !!! somewhere around 91-92. The year Kenny ran 300 at Gainesville (also witnessed that). I remember how unseasonably COLD it was in Florida that trip.

Here are some more pictures of Lot A18, the 69 Camaro SS with the L78 and a 4 speed. This is a nice looking car. There's no mention in the writeup if it is documented as an original L78. This car was also featured in the Art of The Musclecar.

Here are some pictures of Lot A34, the "L89" 68 Chevelle SS. I don't have any good pictures of the car itself. It was featured in the August '08 issue of Musclecar Review and it was also in the Art of The Musclecar. The VIN is 138378B140051 and it was sold new at DeBonis Chevrolet in Havre Grace MD. I have EG as the engine code for the L78 in '68. I don't know what the engine code for an L89 in a '68 Chevelle would be, but I would think it would be different than the code for an L78. I don't know that there are any real documented L89 Chevelles built in '68.

Here are some pictures of Lot A39 the 65 Malibu SS Z-16. According to the writeup this is car #36 in the Z-16 Registry. I thought this was the Hoss Cartwright car, but it doesn't mention that in the writeup and I thought that car was a different number in the registry. Never the less this is a real Z-16 according to the writeup.

Here are some pictures of Lot B63 the 70 Nova with an L78. This car was featured in the December '07 issue of Musclecar Review. To my knowledge the L78 and L34 were only available with the SS option. You couldn't get them in a plain jane Nova. I asked Doug Marion about that after I saw this car featured in the magazine and that was his understanding as well. This car looked to have all the correct big block stuff so it could be an original SS car that was restored without the SS trim to make it look like more of a sleeper. They were also trying to say that it was a COPO car in the magazine feature, but it has an M21 and a 4.11 rear so that doesn't fit either. It is quite the sleeper. I will be interested to see what these cars sell for. There were some nice cars I saw that last time I was there that I don't see in this auction so he is keeping some. When I was there he had a bunch of Corvettes that I don't see in the auction. I think he had one of every year from '54 to the mid '70's.

Well, I might agree there may be more. The west coast had a collection ( name slips my mind right now) where there was supposed to be another. As far as I remember both the "original" cars were yellow with the front black stripe....

Agree. That's a fake tag, as well as the one on the 69 Azure Turquoise L-78 car.
A really impressive collection, but as has been stated, not a lot of attention to correctness or realness of many of the cars.

Anybody have any info on car A13? 1970 Z28, black/black. Lots of little details to fix & a bit tired looking, but anybody here know drivetrain details?
Thanks
Don't know a thing about it. 3 pics. That's it. Not much more in the description. Some odd things stick out; looks like a spray painted booster, someone chromed the fender braces, and a really odd GM sticker on the upper alt bracket. I am guessing a few more minutes of "where's waldo" would yield some other issues.
It is a shame these cars weren't vetted in advance of the auction. They should just be represented for what they are. I have already commented on two fake tags on pretty high end cars. Hope no one gets burned. Museum is still open to the public between now and the auction, but I don't know how closely one would be able to inspect. I fear that there will be no bargains given the publicity and the notariety of the current owner. I mean no disrespect to the owner. Just the fact that he acquired all these cars is impressive. Just wish it were handled differently. One day is set aside for pre-auction inspection.
Having said that, given the description below, I would take it to mean this car does not have its original engine, but does have a CTB suffix motor, either a real one or a restamp. Just can't tell.
I would also take "Re-finished in Tuxedo Black with white sport stripes" to mean it is a color change.
Also don't know if "rally sport split bumper" means it is a true rally sport, or if it just got the split bumper.
Anyone going to be there? I have only seen one post from a member here indicating he is going; and I know he would like some help vetting two or three cars he may be interested in.
This is it for description:
350/360 HP "CTB" suffix engine
4-speed manual transmission
Power brakes
Power steering
Bucket seats
Center console
Rally Sport split bumper
Re-finished in Tuxedo Black with white sport stripes
Dual exhaust with headers
Original Protect-O-Plate
Original vehicle invoice

All of the documents shown for the alleged Berger COPO are reproduction. Poorly done, to say the least.
N672561 was final-assembled on or about August 19, not September 23. The body number on the w/s is for ZL1 #3. For '69 options were listed in alphabetical order, by ECL. Floor mats [B37] are listed after D55; U63, PL5 and N40 are also out of order. The destination charge is incorrect; most likely was $26.45 as seen on real Berger docs for a Z/28 and COPO.
The w/s and shippers copy were part of a multi-layer carbon paper form. All the system-generated info was identical. These two don't match. The w/s is missing the dealer order number seen on the shipper; the body numbers differ.
Many of the errors appear to have been copied from the really bad repro w/s that was displayed with ZL1 #3 many years ago. Photo on page 200 of John Hooper's 1969 Camaro book. At least they had the decency to label it a replica.

Drew, I emailed you the vin numbers. One car was missing, was told it was up in Kissimee, and no one had the vin!
Buddy
Hello Buddy,
I got your emails.
What cars there did you want to take home?
Best Regards,
Drew

The 67 Z, if it was real! There was an L78 camaro I wouldn’t mind having either! Strangely, there were no 3rd gen Camaro’s. I need a 3rd gen Z to complete my collection! I guess they weren’t muscle cars!

...
... This should be an interesting auction.
... There are some very neat cars there.

I had an '88 IROC with the HO LB9 305, 5 speed and G92 high performance rear axle. I was always under the impression this was a dog engine, but that changed when I ran it thru the gears and it was still barking the 8" wide Gaterback tires slamming 3rd. That little car was a lot faster than I ever expected.

Rick's collection .....has some nice cars, but most of them are driver quality with incorrect details.
If that's the case, then people are spending some crazy $$$ on them

Someone posted previously that this was a clone. 124379N672561.
Guess that would mean all the docs are fake?
Can someone confirm?

That info has been confirmed by William of CRG and the Berger Resgistry, on another thread.
And lot A18, Azure Turquoise L78 with a fake trim tag brought $110,000 plus premium.
Apparently, a lot of uneducated buyers.
Nice looking car, clearly a fake Norwood tag. The listing states it is an LA built car.
This is so sad.

Its weird it says LA built car with California emissions but above that shows a Norwood vin

It has a Norwood tag so I would hope it has a Norwood VIN. You better not mess that up.

I am guessing some moron helping with the write ups thought that only the CA built cars got smog pumps.

I was just at the museum in early November and looked closely at both this Berger COPO and the HO one next to it. The HO was definitely the nicer of the two from a. restoration detail and accuracy standpoint. The silver car had numerous things that didn't align. Guess I should put mine up for sale.

I was amazed at what some of them brought as I’ve visited there twice and looked closely at some of the cars. That was one gigantic good deal for both Rick and Dana.

The chassis broadcast is so out of whack it makes me laugh, I can't believe someone would attempt to pass it off as legit.
I mean is it even possible for the car to have been built 9/23 and sold from Berger on 9/25?
